A Look At The Steelers 2014 Opponents

The NFL has released the 2014 home and away opponents for every team. The exact dates of the games won’t get released until sometime in the Spring of 2014. At first glance, the Steelers 2014 schedule looks promising. Most notably, there are no away games west of the Mississippi.

2014 Steelers Home And Away Schedule

Home: Bengals, Browns, Ravens, Texans, Colts, Chiefs, Saints, Buccaneers
Away: Bengals, Browns, Ravens,  Jaguars, Titans, Jets, Falcons, Panthers.

The NFL uses a formula that determines each team’s 16 game schedule. The formula consists of the following components:

  1. Home and away against its three division opponents (6 games).
  2. The four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle (4 games).
  3. The four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle (4 games).
  4. Two intraconference games based on the prior year’s standings (2 games). These games match a first-place team against the first-place teams in the two same-conference divisions the team is not scheduled to play that season. The second-place, third-place, and fourth-place teams in a conference are matched in the same way each year.
