Updates On Le’Veon Bell’s Leg Injury

Le’Veon Bell left tonight’s game early with what looked to be a scary knee injury. As you can see in the picture below.

Afterwards, Bell was able to leave the field on his own, but was pretty distraught on the sideline while trainers looked him over.

After the game, Coach Tomlin relayed some positive news. “Structurally it appears to be fine,” said Tomlin. “Thankfully it doesn’t appear to be anything major.” The team is waiting on MRI results to see if he has any ligament or connective tissue damage. Passing initial stability tests is a good sign of course, though.

According to Dale Lolley, some of his teammates expect to have him on the field for the Ravens game.

After the game, Bell left the lockers without an air cast or crutches, which is very good news.

We’ll have to play the waiting game for a day or two before we hear more.

Le’Veon Bell Named 2014 Steelers MVP

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell has been voted team MVP by his teammates, the Steelers announced today. The selection of Bell shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Bell, Antonio Brown or Ben Roethlisberger seemed like logical front runners.

Bell is the fifth running back in team history to receive the nomination, marking seven times a back has been named MVP. The other 4 were Franco Harris, Barry Foster, Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker in 2006. Bell has already set a single season record for most yards from scrimmage at 2,115 and has the 5th most rushing yards in team history at 1,341 with one game to go.

Earlier in the 2014 season, the second year running back totaled 200 yards from scrimmage in three consecutive games. Walter Payton was the only other player in league history to do such a thing.

Bell amassed 235 yards from scrimmage (185 rushing yards and 50 receiving) and recorded 3 touchdowns during Sunday’s 42-21 victory over the Bengals. Bell also joined Walter Payton as the only other player in NFL history to record at least 200 scrimmage yards in three straight games.

The last time a Steelers RB was named AFC offensive player of the week was Rashard Mendenhall in 2011.

Le’Veon Bell Accepts Plea Deal For DUI And Marijuana Charges

Le’Veon Bell has accepted a plea deal ahead of his scheduled court day today for his DUI and other related charges. According to WPXI, Bell will enter a program for first-time offenders and he’ll be on probation for 15 months. If the running back completes all that is required of him, the charges will be dropped.

You can watch the WPXI report below.

Le’Veon Bell Didn’t Know He Could Get A DUI For Being High

Ross Township police have released the criminal complaint against Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount. According to the complaint, Le’Veon Bell didn’t know he could get a DUI from smoking marijuana.

“I didn’t know that you could get a DUI for being high. I smoked two hours ago,” Bell said according to the complaint (via the Post Gazette). “I am not high anymore. I am perfectly fine. Why would I be getting high if I had to get on a plane to make it to my game?”

You can draw your own conclusions, but either Bell really is that clueless, or he hoped to talk his way out of it. The officer asked where he was heading, to which Bell replied, “I have to be on my plane at three to be in Philadelphia. I play for the Steelers.” The officer noted that Bell’s eyes were red and glassy, and his pupils were dilated. After a field sobriety test, the officer noted that he didn’t believe that he could safely operate a motor vehicle.

After the traffic stop, Bell was taken to UPMC Passavant where he had a blood test to determine if he had active THC in his blood. He was subsequently charged with DUI.

After last night’s game, the two apologized for the distraction they caused. “I’m sorry to be a distraction to the team,” said Bell. “I’m only going to answer football questions right now.” After which he would not answer questions about the incident.

Blount’s apology was similar. “I’m sorry for the distraction I caused my team. I apologized to the team and the coaches.”

Report: Police File Charges Against Le’veon Bell And LeGarrette Blount

According to several media outlets, the Ross Township police department has formally filed charges against Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount.

Blount has been charged with possession of marijuana, and Bell has been charged with possession, as well as DUI. Both charges are misdemeanors, which is why the two are able to receive the charges via the mail.

For what it’s worth, Ed Bouchette of the Post Gazette says that the Steelers are not going to punish the two, and that the team is going to leave discipline to the NFL.

Photos Of LeGarrette Blount And Le’Veon Bell’s Police Encounter

Pittsburgh’s CBS affiliate KDKA has obtained photos of Le’veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount’s incident yesterday. In the pictures, you can clearly see Le’Veon Bell in handcuffs being escorted by police officers.

In the third photo, you can see the motorcycle unit that initially pulled the Steelers duo over. According to the Ross Township police, the motorcycle officer was at a red light and smelled marijuana smoke coming from the running back’s camaro. After pulling them over, the officer found a ziploc bag with 20 grams of marijuana on the console.

As of right now, no one has been formally charged with anything. “No one has been charged yet. The case is still being investigated,” said Ross Township Police Detective Brian Kohlhepp via KDKA. “However, we do anticipate charges of possession against all three individuals. And in addition to that, we took Mr. Bell to UPMC Passavant for blood draw for suspicion of DUI for driving under the influence of marijuana.”

The detective also indicated that the department has not had contact with the Steelers organization.

Steelers Plan To Play Le’Veon Bell And LeGarrette Blount Tonight

It appears that head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t going to take a knee jerk type of stance on Bell and Blount’s run in with the police yesterday. According to NFL reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, Tomlin intends to play the two during tonight’s match up against the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Kinkhabwala, Tomlin’s mindset is that jobs will be decided tonight, and the whole team shouldn’t suffer because of the actions of Bell and Blount. It would make little sense for the team to discipline the two, assuming they do so at all, this early in the process. The two have not even received summons for the citations they received yesterday. How much they’ll play tonight remains to be seen.

Le’Veon Bell Traveled To Philadelphia On His Own

As I reported last night, LeGarrette Blount traveled with the team by plane to Philadelphia yesterday. Le’Veon Bell did not travel with the team’s charter, most likely because he was busy having blood work done to be tested for a DUI.

According to Ed Bouchette, and confirmed by other reporters, Bell did later travel to Philadelphia on his own. I wouldn’t really expect to see him suited up tonight, though. Aside from the possible discipline the team may give the pair for yesterday’s transgressions, the team could fine Bell $10,930 for missing the flight to Philadelphia under Article 42, section 1 of the collective bargaining agreement.

Blount Travels With The Team To Philly, Steelers Issue Statement

After being cited for possession of marijuana today, Steelers running back LeGarrette Blount traveled with the team to Philadelphia. Le’Veon Bell did not travel with the team. The Steelers play the Eagles Thursday night on NFL Network. It’s possible that Bell missed the plane due to reportedly being at the hospital to have a blood test performed.

The Steelers public relations spokesman issued a statement regarding Bell and Blount. “We are aware of the reports and still gathering information,” said Burt Lauten via a release. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
