I expect Chickillo will be signed to the practice squad today. Grant, however, isn’t such a slam dunk. While teams aren’t lining up to place him on their 53 man roster, there will likely be some suitors trying to add him to their practice squads. We’ll see if the Steelers can add him to theirs soon.
The Steelers have been busy retooling their practice squad this morning. The team has added five new players to the squad, and released 5 others to make room. Here’s the list of signings.

After these moves, the Steelers currently have 3 players on the practice squad who spent the entire preseason with the team. The flurry of moves is an indicator that the team recognizes that they’ve lacked talented depth. I expect the team to make even more practice squad moves in the near future.

The Steelers have signed WR Danny Coale to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team has placed WR Tim Benford on the practice squad injured reserve list.

Benford was signed to the practice squad just a couple days ago, when the team released practice squad corner back Jordan Sullen.
Danny Coale was with the Steelers throughout training camp last summer. Coale was waived injured in August after suffering a displaced fracture in one of his fingers. The 6’0, 190lb receiver was drafted by the Cowboys in the 5th round of the 2012 draft. He is the son in law of former Steelers lineman Tunch Ilkin.
The Steelers have signed S Ross Ventrone to the practice squad. DB Brandon Jones, who was recently signed, has been released to make room for the signing. Ventrone was with the Steelers during training camp, but was cut during the final 53 roster cuts. He was in with the Arizona Cardinals for a work out just a couple days ago.
In unrelated news, the Steelers had DE Izaan Cross in for a tryout earlier in the week, but signed DE Hall Davis instead.
The Steelers have signed DE Hall Davis to the practice squad. RB Ray Graham was released to make room for the signing.
Davis is listed at 6’6″, and 285 lbs. The 27 year old end has been with several teams over the past few seasons. Most recently, he was released from the Cowboys practice squad a couple weeks ago, and saw playing time with the Browns during the last two games of the 2012 season.
The Steelers announce that they have signed former Pitt running back Ray Graham to the practice squad. Former Bearcat running back George Winn has been released. Graham was in for a workout earlier today. He was waived by the Texans a few days ago.
The Steelers have signed CB Isaiah Green back to the practice squad. Green was released on Tuesday to open a roster spot for the signing of DeMarcus Van Dyke. CB Devin Smith was released from the practice squad to make room for Green.

The Steelers announced that they have signed former Cincinnati Bearcats running back George Winn to the practice squad. Winn was touted as having great vision and explosive up field cuts prior to the draft, and is someone who could fit well in a ZBS. Winn was signed by the Texans as a UDFA this spring. After being cut by the Texans in May, the Patriots signed him in June and released him during their final roster cuts. He was signed to the Raiders practice squad a couple weeks ago, and released last week. He is 5’11” and 210 lbs.
