Updates On Marcus Gilbert And Alameda Ta’amu

Yesterday, there was concern and uncertainty over the possibility of Marcus Gilbert being injured. No real answers were given after he appeared to be hurt at the end of the conditioning test, and was subsequently carted off the field and attended to by staff. Well, today in an interview with Jerry Dulac of the Post Gazette Gilbert said that he was not injured, but that his body was cramping.

“I could have walked off,” Gilbert said. “I’ve been training very hard this summer to come to camp in tremendous shape. I’m ready to be the left tackle. I know what I’m capable of doing.”

On the other side of the ball, Alameda Ta’amu was listed to start camp on the PUP list yesterday. Coach Tomlin said he was suffering from a hamstring injury, but no further details were given. Jim Wexell reported earlier today that Ta’amu injured his hamstring two weeks ago while running sprints. According to Wexell, Ta’amu has also lost 27 pounds since last year.  This would put his weight between 320 and 325 pounds, which is right around the weight of Hebron Fangupo. Hopefully for Ta’amu, his injury doesn’t keep him out long. The competition for the backup Nose Tackle position is tight this summer, and he cannot afford to be sidelined long.
