Better to do it right before he gets another Lombardi as opposed to right after. ;)

I don't have the hate for Tomlin that some do. Most of the same haters didn't like Cowher either because he couldn't win the big game. I like to remind Tomlin haters we have yet to having a losing season with him at the helm. But, in Pittsburgh you don't win the Super Bowl it's a losing season.

Here is to more years of Tomlinisms!!!

If Tomlin can finish out his contract. 3 head coaches in 49 years, That is how it's done.

But, who do you replace him with. Marvin Lewis has never won a playoff game. He's been with the bengals for like 12 years.

And I know a lot of Bengals fans who would trade Lewis for Tomlin at the drop of a hat.

    That was my immediate thought.

Not sure why people think he is such a great coach now. He seems very "hands off" with the coordinators.

His handling of Arians made me think of him as spineless. Lebeau came right out and said "I'm not retiring."

And of course, the weakest part of the team is supposed to be Tomlin's specialty.

He was forced hands off with Lebeau. Look at his winning percentage. Hell he rebuilt a team while never falling under 8-8. Has nobody else picked up on the pattern of the Steelers? Every 8-10 years we are going to have to rebuild and adjust and it always takes about 3 years to do it. Meanwhile the other coaches all had losing seasons during that stretch. When you build your team from the inside there are going to be a few bad years. This team is absolutely on the upswing. His players go out there and give it everything they have for him on every play and that is about the best thing you can get out of a head coach. Does he get into the game planning as much as other coages? I don't know the answer to that because I have never been in the NFL and all organizations hide what they are doing so nobody really knows what goes on behind closed doors. One thing I do know is that he is a motivator of men and that's goes a long way.

His record speaks for itself, fortunately the Rooneys don't look for reasons to explain away success, they reward it. Great move by them to lock him up for a few more years. They are about to be rewarded the fruits of his labors.

Roethlisberger had 5 playoff wins in his first two seasons. With Tomlin he has 5 playoff wins in 8 seasons (none in the last 4 obviously).

Roethlisberger's ratings in his last three playoffs have all been under a dismal 80. Some of that is game plan.

I never said he was perfect, just very good. They've been rebuilding for the last 3 years, I wouldnt expect there to be many playoff victories.

Sucky game plan against the rats though, I admit that.

I don't feel like "rebuild" is the right word when the Steelers have this much talent on the roster. I feel like it is a slowness to recognize and repair weak parts of the team. From 2006-07 Hartings, Simmons and Marvell Smith all moved on and the OL has only fixed very recently. It took a good six seasons to get the pieces to get the OL back close to what it was. SP teams was the same thing. For about 3 years Steelers had the worst SP teams coverage in the league probably (Sylvester and Brown both helped and are gone). Now, knowing that the secondary had been aging and close to done nonpieces were added until the last two drafts and the starting secondary will have 0 games starting experience at SS or Nickel if it is Thomas and Golson.

Most teams don't rebuild with a top 5 QB.

Since Tomlin's last playoff win Belichick has 7, John Harbaugh has 6, Pete Carroll has 6, and Jim Harbaugh has 5. It is hard to argue that he is "Top 3" right now.

You forget the pieces they had in place, it was impossible for rookies to get on the field and since you cant hold onto them as long anymore, its very hard to have a player to plug in once a vet is done. Franchise QB or not, every team has down years, unless you cheat your way through it like NE.

Saints were 7-9 in 2012 and 2014. I would consider Drew Brees top 5. They are not rebuilding imo either. Can't be in first place and go to the playoffs every single year.

Jesus! You just named the coaches that won the superbowl the last three years. What kind of cheesy strategy is that? DUH. If you pick the coaches that won the superbowl they will have 5 or more playoff wins since Tomlins last....

talk about bending stats to try to make you look good... Steelers havent had a losing SEASON since 2003 !!!!! I.E. Tomlin has never had a losing season since he became head coach....

Last season we lost LeGerrette Blount AND LeVeon Bell !!! Right before the playoffs.... we had ZERO running backs in our playoff game last year. If we had either one of those RBs we would have possibly won the superbowl and definitely beat the Ratbirds....
