Hi Steelers fans. Here's a list of things for you to do while in town. Kudos to bigsteelerfaninky for a great list.

I've left the thread open. Please keep reply's only for things to do that you wish to add to the list, so that it is easy for visitors to view.

    HOTELS

I stay at Wyndham downtown and walk through a nice park and then the bridge over to the stadium

Another excellent option is to STAY AT SHERATON STATION SQUARE AND TAKE THE FERRY OVER TO THE GAME! The ferry is an awesome experience for a first-timer going to a game. The Incline is awesome too, which is also at Station Square.

Closer to the stadium Theres the Hyatt Place which is a very short walk from the Stadium, but typically more expensive However you won't have to worry parking or getting around and can walk to the game. The Casino is al$o very close by.

Further from the stadium is the airport hotels. They are cheaper but around 12-15 miles from downtown.

    SHOPPING

As an out of towner I was amazed at the store hometown sports they have any and everything steeler that u may want

They also have steelers sign autographs sometimes on Saturday.

The Strip- Go on a Saturday for the full experience. Tons of Street vendors . Expect a big crowd and bring a bag to carry purchases. Parking can be tough but well worth it. You can shop for a variety of items, from hand crafted metal to crafted Native American items, not to mention the ton of Pittsburgh sports items.

Outlet Malls- about 20 miles away in Washington PA.

Ross Park Mall- Your typical mall with all the typical stores and places to eat. Keep the wife away from the COACH store or your trip will be much more expensive

    RESTAURANTS

    I love eating at Peppis

You have to get u a Rothlisberger there

(If your heart can handle it)

Grille 36 and primanti brothers are a must too

The Strip- There are great places to eat (Kaya, Pamela's for breakfast, Primanti's)

Station Square- Hard Rock Cafe Joes Crab Shack and Texas de Brazil just to name a few.

Members here think the best burgers and craft beer restaurant is Fatheads. Brew Gentlemen has really good craft beer/juice bombs if you like those.

Maybe the best place to eat in Pittsburgh is Gaucho Parilla Argentina

    It's on Penn Ave.

    THINGS TO DO

The Duquesne Incline- If you are visiting Pittsburgh, this is a must! Take the incline up to the top and walk Grandview Avenue. You will see breathtaking views of the city. Make sure you are there when the city is lit up at night.

Zoo&Aquarium- Fun place to spend a day looking

at interesting animals. They have a great penguin exhibit and the polar bears are entertaining. It is one of largest Zoo's and has a huge Aquarium with exotic animals. There are some rides for the children and a fenced in area with small animals that you can pet and feed.

Rivers Casino- Great place for tables games and slots machine. Buffet isn't too shabby

Sports Venues- If you go in September check out the Pirates and PNC Park it may be the most beautiful park in America. Oct-Jan is hockey season go see the Penguins at the Consol Energy Center.

    Enjoy!

    And even more from Bobbybiz...

Shopping in Shadyside. Plenty of small shops in an older upscale section of the city
    http://thinkshadyside.com/discover-shadyside/shop/

The area around the outlet mall is being built up as well. There's a casino and horse racing track across the street if you're into playing the ponies. There's also a Primanti's there as well as a Bufords (Cajun food, same as next to the arena), and a local winery.

Church Brew Works is cool, but no one has mentioned the Lawrenceville section of the city which is just beyond the Brew Works. Lawrenceville is a great up and coming part of the city with tons to do (eat, shop, drink, movies) all in a short walking distance.

It was even just recently ranked THE 'coolest neighborhood in America" by Money Magazine.

All in the same neighborhood, over by the University of Pittsburgh:

Visit the Carnegie Science and Art Museums. You will know them by the Diplodocus out in front. There are, I believe, only 2 museums in the USA with more original complete dinosaur skeletons than you'll see at the Carnegie.

Go over to see the remains of Forbes Field, where there is a plaque by a section of the wall.

And finally, have a meal at the Dirty O, aka the Original Hot Dog Shop. Order a large fries...

    Things to do:

    Ride the Duquesne incline.

    Ride a gateway clipper boat.

    Tour the strip district.

    Carnegie Museum of Art

    Carnegie Museum if Natural History

    Carnegie Science Center

    Highmark SportsWorks

    National Aviary

    Children's Museum

View of Pittsburgh along Mount Washington

The Great Hall at Heinz Field

    Phipps Conservatory

    Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium

    Stadium Tour

    Kennywood (In season)

    Warhol Museum

    The Strip District:

Shopping area along Penn Avenue and Smallman Street from 16th to about 22nd. Produce, fish, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Steeler Gear, restaurants, etc. It was where the produce yards were years ago. It's a strip of land between the river and a hill.

Fun to walk around on a Saturday. Most shops shut down mid afternoon.

Things to eat: Cheese Steak at Primanti's, fish sandwich at Wholey's, meat on a stick from Chinese street vendors, tacos at Reyna, Enrico Biscotti, clams, shrimp, oysters at Roland's.

Parking can be a challenge. Best chance is on Smallman Street and totally avoid Penn Avenue.

This won`t apply to most football fans coming for a game, unless they catch a pre-season, or VERY early season game,
But, I took an off-season summer vacation to Kennywood, and on the way there, I found a Canoe Livery, that operated under one of the bridges, near the stadium.
(I Know they have tons of them, (Bridges, that is).. )...
But this was on the opposite side of the river from the DuQuene incline....
We(My Girlfriend, Me, and her son and daughter), got to rent two canoes, to paddle into the confluence of the Ohio, Mongahela, and Allegheney rivers...
right by the stadium... it was probably a 2 or 3 mile paddle from where we rented them, to where the Stadium was..

It was AWESOME... Cargo carrying ships, tug-boats, and casual fishermen, were all on the water, at the same time, and place, and it was really cool to see.
I wish I could remember the name of the company that rented out the canoes, but a local would probably know.
Within walking distance of that place, was a WW2 era submarine, that was preserved as it was when the men who served on it lived in it, and for about 5 bucks, you could walk thru it.. pretty cool stuff..

And I know that this has nothing to do with what to do during Football season, but, one item on my bucket list is to see the 4th of July fireworks from the top of the incline, put on by the Zampelli family... they make AMAZING fireworks, and to see them over where the three rivers come together would fill my soul with joy!

    GO STEELERS!!:yeehaw:

Can I add if you like sushi, go to the Slippery Mermiad in Sewickley. It’s about 10 miles from downtown. Right next to the airport.

I stay at the Priory Hotel, an artfully redone Benedictine monastery. They shuttle to the ballpark though it is a very doable walk. When there is a sold out series they have room-ticket packages. Before the game go to the Warhol Museum and do a screen test. Since Andy isn’t doing any more movies you will have to settle for your chance at fame being shown on the walls of the cafeteria.

Yeah, you could grubhub it too. I'd definitely got with PP. Hofbrahaus is just an app and plain ones. Unless you want a brat and pint of German beer then you can get it all at once.

Someone already posted a lot of attractions in Oakland in the university area. I will add Heinz Chapel and the international classrooms on the ground level in the Cathedral of Learning.

I tell anyone if you're in a city with those Duck tours, do the tour early. Usually a lot of corny jokes, but it's a great way to get an overview of a city.

Been twice, as an out of towner:
    * Monday seemed like a dead day (places closed) when I was there, so I wouldn't treat is as more than your travel day.
    * Ride the inclines
    * Hit the Strip for Steelers gear you won't find in your home town
    * If you're into museums, Carnegie is a great one
    * Stay at a downtown hotel, will make it easy to get everywhere. Much better public transit than KC.
    * Never had much love for Andy Warhol and his museum made me like him even less, I'll leave it at that :lolol:

I live on the South Side which is definitely the bar and drinking neighborhood in Pittsburgh. If you're in your 20's you'll love it on a Friday or Saturday night. If you're <ahem> more mature than I'd suggest not staying out past 9PM or so on Carson St.

With that caveat though there are some great places to eat and drink on the South Side. Some of my favorites:

Piper's Pub - a Scottish pub with good food and great beer. Futbol on weekend mornings if you're into that.
Fathead's - great bar with great food. Huge portions.
Dish - a fabulous Italian (Sicilian mostly) restaurant. Upscale, but casual. Small and generally crowded. For good reason.
Stagioni - another Italian place that's very good.
Jack's - the quintessential Pittsburgh dive bar
Carson St. Deli - more than a good deli, they have a great beer selection and a beer garden out back
Cafe de Jour - a very good restaurant that also has a patio out back. BYOB.
O'Leary's - a total greasy spoon breakfast and lunch place. OK, the food is nothing special, but the owner, Cheryl, and the staff are awesome. Oh, and if you're expecting things like matching plates, cups, and cutlery you've come to the wrong place.

The Holiday Inn Express is in a very good location for all of these places and I believe they have a shuttle that runs to the stadium on gamedays. It's also close enough to Station Square that you can go down there and take a Gateway Clipper boat across the river to the stadium which is a great way to get to the game.

Gooskis in Polish Hill is a total punk rock dive bar that has the best wings I've ever eaten in my life!
