The Steelers have added Kion Wilson to the practice squad. LB Alan Baxter was cut from the squad to make room. Wilson was released Wednesday when the Steelers signed Stevenson Sylvester. Baxter was with the team throughout training camp, and will probably be back at some point in my opinion.

Both Ben Roethlisberger and Ramon Foster participated fully in practice today. Heath Miller was limited, but this was listed as being a coach’s decision. Ramon Foster said he thinks he’ll be fine and that he’ll probably play against the Jets this Sunday. Dick LeBeau told reporters that Cortez Allen is still hampered by his ankle sprain.
Bill Cowher was on Sirius NFL radio earlier talking with Pat Kirwan about HBO Hard Knocks and the Steelers. Cowher says he is strongly against allowing cameras at training camp.
“I think the commish and I would be having a talk on Park Avenue, because I don’t think that would happen.” ‘There’s too many things that take place, it’s a sacred place. To put it on public display- it’s not necessary. There’s tough decisions that are made…that’s the making of a foundation of trust that’s built there…I think sometimes having a camera in there is a violation of that. I feel really strongly about that.’
Is it too late for the Steelers this year, or do you think they still have a chance?
‘They’ve dug a hole. Everyone else is 3-2 in the division…they’re 0 and 4. You can’t worry about them [other teams]. The thing they need to do right now is get a win. Defensively, they’ve got to find a way to get some turnovers, and not give up the big plays. To me, it’s about getting back to the basics. I still think they’ve got enough talent to make a run. Whether or not they’ve dug a hole…there’s very little margin for error. You have a pro bowl, hall of fame quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger, Troy’s running around better than he has in the last couple years…you never know…first thing they need to do is win one game.’

According to Jerry Dulac of the Post-Gazette, Coach Tomlin has banned all players from playing games in the locker room- including vets. Dulac writes that Tomlin has removed the pool cues, shuffleboard discs, and ping pong paddles until the team gets back on track. While it seems unlikely that banning pool in the locker room correlates to success on the field, it is fitting that vets lose the privilege after making the same ruling for rookies a short time ago. Whatever changes need to be made to start winning, I guess.

With the signing of S Will Allen, the Steelers have announced that DaMon Cromartie-Smith has been waived/injured. Cromartie-Smith suffered an injury to his hip flexor during the loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. Will Allen’s release by the Cowboys couldn’t have been timed better, as he is more familiar with this defense than any active safety not currently on the roster.
Gerry Dulac of the Post-Gazette reports that the team has signed S Will Allen. Allen was in for a workout with the Steelers yesterday, after being released by the Cowboys earlier this week. Allen has seen less and less playing time with the Cowboys each week, mostly because they are pretty loaded at the safety position. This signing likely means that Damon Cromartie-Smith’s hip flexor injury would hinder him for a long period of time, and he’ll likely be released.
Will Allen’s signing will be for the veteran minimum. Since he’s played with the Cowboys for the first 5 weeks, the Steelers will only be responsible for the prorated portion of his salar which is $620,000.

Former Steelers safety Will Allen is at the Steelers facility for a workout according to multiple reports. Allen was released by the Cowboys yesterday. Allen spent three seasons with the Steelers before signing with the Cowboys as a free agent this spring. Stay tuned for updates as they come in.
