The Steelers have made a bit of a surprise roster move today. 5th round draft pick Wesley Johnson has been waived. The versatile offensive lineman hasn’t been active during the regular season. Johnson was waived to make room for the promotion of S Ross Ventrone from the practice squad.
With Shamarko Thomas being sidelined with his hamstring injury, the activation of Ventrone makes sense. Ventrone is a solid special teams contributor. The Steelers likely hope that Wesley Johnson clears waivers so that they can sign him to their practice squad next week. Teams have until 4:00 pm Monday afternoon to submit a waiver claim.
