Several Sitting Out For Last Practice At Latrobe

The Steelers are holding their second joint practice with the Buffalo Bills tonight at St. Vincent, and the final practice of training camp. Several players are sitting out the joint practice tonight.

Will Allen, Will Johnson, Matt Spaeth, Jarvis Jones, Jordan Zumwalt, Maurkice Pouncey and Ramon Foster are all sidelined this evening. The two Wills are nursing hamstring strains they suffered in practice yesterday. Spaeth has missed the last couple practices for undisclosed reasons. Jarvis Jones and Jordan Zumwalt have been battling with groin injuries, and Ramon Foster has been out with knee swelling. There’s no information available about why Pouncey is sitting out tonight.

Ryan Shazier is nursing a bruised knee according to Coach Tomlin. He is practicing today, but probably only in a limited capacity as has been the case for the past couple days.

Earlier today, Mike Tomlin characterized Jarvis Jones and Ryan Shazier as questionable for Saturday night’s game against the Bills. Vince Williams, who has been sidelined with concussion symptoms, is suited up and will participate in some fashion tonight.

Heyward-Bey Returns To Practice, Shazier Still Out

WR Darrius Heyward-Bey has returned to practice today for the first time since sustaining a concussion on July 31st.  LB Ryan Shazier is still sidelined with his knee “boo boo” as Tomlin called it.

OG Ramon Foster and WR Lance Moore are getting maintenance days today. NT Steve McLendon is still out with his concussion and LB Jarvis Jones is out again due to his groin injury. Hopefully Coach Tomlin will shed more light on a couple absences later today.

Ramon Foster Is Back With The Team Today

Steelers left guard Ramon Foster has returned to team activities today after missing the start of training camp due to the loss of his mother. Foster’s mother, Wyvonia “Jeanell” Foster-Morgan, passed away unexpectedly last Tuesday. She was only 49.

Foster told media members today that he appreciates the support of the organization, coaches, teammates, and fans on social media. He said the supports has helped him a lot, and that he’s excited to return. With his return, Chris Hubbard and Cody Wallace will return to their back up spots on the line.

Ben Roethlisberger Blows Off Steam In Georgia With His Line

Ben Roethlisberger is working on some male bonding with his starting offensive linemen in Georgia this week. Ben, Maurkice Pouncey, Marcus Gilbert, Kelvin Beachum, Mike Adams, Ramon Foster, and David DeCastro flew down in a private jet yesterday. While the exact location wasn’t disclosed, I can only presume that they are visiting Lake Oconee, GA, where the quarterback owns a lake home.

Thanks to Ramon Foster via Twitter, we get to have a personal look at their excursion.

The team will reconvene on Tuesday, May 27th for OTA’s, so this week is the last hurrah to get some R&R and bonding in before workouts get more serious.

Most Of O-Line Back To Full Practice And Other Injury News

Most of the offensive line returned to full participation today during practice. Mike Adams (ribs), Kelvin Beachum (hip), David DeCastro (ankle), Marcus Gilbert (ankle) and Fernando Velasco (knee) were all full participants today. Ramon Foster however, did not participate again today. Guy Whimper told media that he has been practicing at left guard, and is preparing to start against the Lions. He did add however that, “ I prepare to start every week because you never know. It’s the NFL. Guys get banged up.”

Brett Keisel (foot) and  LaMarr Woodley (calf) also did not participate in practice for the second day in a row.

Steelers Appear To Have Dodged Serious Injury Bullet

Coach Tomlin gave injury updates to the media during his press conference earlier, and the news sounded pretty promising.

Ramon Foster, who left the Raiders game with a concussion, has been cleared to practice. Coach Tomlin said, “We’ll let that practice participation dictate where we go with him. Obviously, with that concussion, we’ll do what’s appropriate like we always do.”

David DeCastro will be limited early in the week, maybe with an opportunity to play with his ankle injury.

Guy Whimper could be limited in the early portion of the week with his hyper-extended knee, but he’s expected to be available for the game and to practice at some point.

Steve McLendon was ill yesterday and was sent home.

Markus Wheaton’s finger fracture is being evaluated to see what his availability will be for the game this week, and for practice.

Lawrence Timmons continues to work through his hand injury, but it didn’t effect his availability during the Raiders game, and it’s not expected to for the Patriots game either.

Report: Ramon Foster’s MRI Shows Minor Sprain

Ramon Foster had a MRI to determine the extent of the pectoral injury he received during the loss to the Vikings at Wembley Stadium. According to the Tribune-Review, the MRI revealed that Foster only suffered a minor pectoral muscles strain. Initial fears were that Foster tore his pectoral muscle, so this is great news. I know Steelers fans everywhere are breathing a collective sigh of relief. No? You should be considering how snake-bitten this team has been on the injury front this year. With the depth of O-line talent being what it is, any positive injury news should be welcomed with open arms.
