Former Steelers RB Dwyer Pleads Guilty To Disorderly Conduct

Former Steelers Running Back Jonathan Dwyer has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor today in an Arizona court, over charges stemming from alleged assaults on his wife last year. After pleading not guilty on Monday, Dwyer entered a guilty plea today. The Arizona Cardinals running back will be placed on probation for 18 months and avoids jail time due to the guilty plea.

Dwyer’s disorderly conduct charged was originally a felony aggravated assault, but was lowered in the plea arrangement. Other misdemeanor charges were dismissed. Prosecutors alleged that Dwyer broke his wife’s nose with a headbutt last summer, and punched her the following day.

Jonathan Dwyer Signs With The Arizona Cardinals

Free agent running back Jonathan Dwyer has signed a one year deal with the Arizona Cardinals TSF has learned. The running back market is pretty tepid, so it’s actually a little surprising that he found a contract so quickly.

Dwyer has been a serviceable back in Pittsburgh, who flashed at times, and reportedly “tapped out” at others. His strongest suit was probably pass blocking, though. Aside from that, he might arguably be remembered most as the running back who took a lot of heat for being overweight.

Dwyer was cut before the 53 man roster selection last year, but was re-signed a week or so later. I wouldn’t have minded seeing Dwyer back for small contract, because he’s shown improvement, but he reportedly was not in the Steelers plans going forward.

[Gif] Jonathan Dwyer Fined $21,000 For Hit During Bears Game

Jonathan Dwyer has been fined $21,000 for leading with the crown of his helmet during the Bears game Sunday night. The hit came late in the second quarter at the end of a 25 yard run by Dwyer. Dwyer lowered his head at the end of the run while Bears safety Chris Conte made the tackle. Dwyer was not penalized during the game. You can watch the play in question below. What do you think? Should he have been fined and was the amount fair? Let us know in the forum or in the comments below.

Report: Jonathan Dwyer Re-Signed For Vet Minimum

According to Ed Bouchette, Jonathan Dwyer’s salary is $630,000. As I said the other day,  Dwyer’s contract would likely be for the vet minimum. What Ed doesn’t say is whether or not the deal includes a signing bonus. It wouldn’t be terribly surprising if it didn’t, but I did expect the terms to include a small one. Either way, the front office knows how to bargain shop.

Edit- There was indeed no signing bonus money included in his contract.

Comments are closed, but you can discuss this in the Steelers Talk Forum. Feel free to create a thread if one isn’t there already.

Steelers Sign C/G Fernando Velasco

The Steelers agreed to terms with former Titans C/G Fernando Velasco today. The deal was for one year, but the financial details were not immediately available. Velasco started 16 games for the Titans last year. 13 of those games at center, and 3 at LG. Many considered Velasco to be the best available center on the open market. If you put a lot of stock into PFF’s grading, they had him graded as the number 11 center last year.

The team has moved quickly to replace the players who were seriously injured yesterday with the signing of Velasco and the re-signing of Jonathan Dwyer. It will be interesting to see what they do about replacing Larry Foote, who tore his bicep yesterday.

Report: Steelers To Re-Sign Jonathan Dwyer

Ed Bouchette of the Post-Gazette is reporting that the Steelers will be re-signing Jonathan Dwyer today. This is a logical move after the news that LaRod Stephens-Howling tore his ACL yesterday and will be out for the year. Dwyer has had workouts with the Giants and the Patriots recently, but neither team offered him a contract.

Dwyer was due $1.323 million this season before being waived during the final roster cuts. It will be interesting to see the financial details of his signing. It’s hard not to feel a little bad for Dwyer given the abysmal blocking performance displayed yesterday by the offensive line. That’s almost certainly going to get worse now that Maurkice Pouncey is out.

Jonathan Dwyer Worked Out For The Patriots Today

The National Football Post reports that the Patriots had Jonathan Dwyer in for a workout today. Dywer was one of two running backs to workout with New England today. The Patriots had several other players in for workouts today, too, but none were immediately signed. Dwyer was also in for a workout with the New York Giants on Tuesday, but no signing is anticipated in the immediate future.

Dwyer’s tender offer was $1.323 million with the Steelers this year, but I can’t imagine a team signing him for more than the minimum $630,000 salary.

Jonathan Dwyer Will ‘Make Mouths Drop’ At Camp

Dwyer was under a lot of criticism this spring for appearing to be overweight at OTA’s. Not helping that perception, Isaac Redman was looking to be in the best shape of his career. It goes without saying that during an offseason when the team spends a second round pick on a back like Le’veon Bell, you want to show up looking hungry and indispensable if you’re a Restricted Free Agent.
