And I'm sorry I did. This was my preseason prediction:

Okay, here you have it. This is my "informed" prediction after the third preseason game as promised. I predict another 8-8 season. We were 8-8 last year and I haven't seen anything in the preseason to make me believe that we'll be any better than we were last year. Oh, we could get to 9-7 and sneak into the playoffs if some other teams have a lackluster year. Or we could end up 7-9 (or worse) and have a losing season. I don't see any intensity, any passion, any fire from this group. I see...flat. That's what we saw last year. It seems our preparation and execution is lacking. I see 2012 all over again.

Now I know I'll be criticized for this post. Some will accuse me of posting a "sky is falling" thread. Others will say "it's only the preseason" so get over it or something of that nature. But I'm trying to look at this as objectively as I can and I just don't see an improved football team over last year. If you disagree, please don't get on here and disparage what I say and tell me how stupid this post is and how I'm overreacting because it's "only the preseason". Tell me why I should believe that we're a better team this year based on what we've seen so far, which is all we've got to go by.

I'm frustrated at this team right now. I'm frustrated with Tomlin who can't seem to get the team fired up to play. I'm frustrated with Haley who doesn't seem to be any better than BA at this point. I'm frustrated at the "genius", DL, who seems to have forgotten how to devise a blitz scheme that actually gets pressure on the QB. I'm frustrated at Colbert who's been missing more than he's hitting on high round draft choices the last few years. They all play a role in where we find ourselves as a football team right now!

Go ahead with your "sky is falling, it's only the preseason, you're overreacting" criticisms if you want to, but can you honestly say we are a better team this year than we were last year based on what you've seen thus far? I just can't see it. I hope when the regular season starts the switch goes on and we unleash...well, never mind.

All I can hear in my head is Christian Bale's melt down when he yelled at an assistant, "Oh, goood for you!"

LOL! Hey, you've gotta admit it's fun to look back. And besides, I'm not the guy that bumped the 2013 season prediction thread that reminded me what my preseason prediction was. Believe me, even though my head was telling me 8-8 I was hoping for 12-4.

And TTF and Blast, if you'll take a look at your predictions and input in the thread...well, I won't go there. ;)

Wish I could be more like you guys, lol. I let some of BF's optimism rub off on me in the weekly picks and what did it get me?!

    Here's what I predicted.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Went with 11-5 or better. I think it will be a 12-4 season just because they want to get that crappy 8-8 taste out of their mouths.

If they go 8-8 again or <.500 this season then major, major changes will be needed.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with most of your early assessment except for TH not being any better than BA. I think he adds a lot more to Bens strengths which is currently being proven on the playing field right now. I saw that right away as he was putting up MVP numbers until he got crushed and rushed back. Many people still have a problem with Haley for one reason or another but he is a huge improvement over the clueless BA situational playcalling. Does he have his fauults? Of coarse he does but the upside is there and he will be back next season unless another HC position is too hard to pass up.

Mike Tomlin - Couldn't agree with you more on the unprepared laziness of the players. I would seriously look into replacing him in the offseason but it won't even be discussed unless he totally bombs the CLE game.

DL - The Defense is just to pourous anymore and we don't need to get into shootouts in order to win games. The fear is gone. Nobody is afraid to play the Steelers defense anymore. I think he will be shown the way out the same way BA was. I hate to see that but it is what it is and nobody can predict that it will be better next season.

Colbert. There are no secrets to the draft anymore. Every player has been scouted from head to toe as draft time approaches. Most team know what they are going to get. Lacy or Le'Vion. Both are great in their own respects. The problem is player development and Tomlin isn't very good at it.

There are many other problems with this team but going into the last season of the game with the playoffs still in reach by a thread there will not be too many changes in the offseason.

Also, If we do happen to sneak into the playoffs then anything is possible with the amount of talent this team has.

As disappointed as I am that we are going .500 again, I feel better about the direction of the team this year. Last year it felt like everything was falling apart, and I mean everything. This year I see positives, most of which are built around the fact that the young kids are starting to make it possible for the vets to be put out to pasture. Not to say that I don't love what Keisel and Clark and Foote have done for this team in the past, only that I am ready to move on.

I could see us making some HUGE changes on the defensive side of the ball, I really could. I think we could see the following:

Keisel...out or back at a vet min deal
    Foote....out
    Clark....out
    Troy....reduced salary
    Ike....reduced salary

Keisel is being replaced by Heyward, Hood, and Woods.
Foote is being replaced by Williams, Garvin, and Spence
Clark is being replaced by Shamarko Thomas
Troy's replacement may be picked this year.
Ike's replacement I expect early this year.

I figured we would be somewhere between 6-10 and 9-7.

I think I nailed it. I picked 10-6 and frankly if Suisham doesn't miss 2 lay-ups and if Browns shoe width is a C instead of an E, I was right on the money.

Very good assessment 86. Also agree that they will not make many changes in the off season. (But I think they should on defense).

Jack you did nail it, I felt the same after watching the Pre season.

I wouldn't gloat about correctly predicting an 8-8 season. This team is really a 13-3 team in my eyes. It's really sad because this team can beat any team. If they Should happen to squeak into the playoffs, they're going to the Super Bowl!!!! 100%

People tend to forget every team wants to beat the Steelers more than any other team..

I also said 11-5. As it turns out I would have been right if we had won 3 more and lost 3 less. I honestly thought it was gonna be worse but then we had a solid preseason game and I thought that maybe we had fixed some problems. It turns out that wasn't the case. Hopefully next year we come out guns blazing and fix this crap.
