Every team that interviewed him passed. But I'm willing to bet the Steelers will be foolish enough. If they do, I predict a downhill slide.

I really hate this notion of having Colbert conducting the draft and then leaving.

i didnt add him because he is an obvious example. just thought i'd throw some forgotten names out their. none obviously were close to what brady achieved but those guys were capable of playing well at times and winning games.

If we are going to try and draft a QB after the 1st to replace Ben, that’s not an encouraging list.

:lolol: of course not. especially considering the number of qb's picked. you probably have less than a 10% chance of getting someone that you feel even a little bit of confidence in as a backup let alone a starter.. look around the league at the QB's. how many teams have a qb that you would consider more than just serviceable ?

What is important to note is that whomever the Steelers GM is currently, they need to be handed over operations effective immediately. How come? It is not feasible to allow a GM to begin building their roster a year later as opposed to that current year of their beginning.

For that matter, it is paramount that they do.

Oh I know but my position was in response to someone wanting to find a QB in the later rounds to succeed Ben.

They are going to have to go first rd to find one. I hope the Steelers feel the same way.

Colbert was in the zone his first decade, but these last 10 ? the magic wore off. IMO he has made some questionable roster decisions and the salary cap hasn't been managed to well.

They were drafting backups. The only time they attempted to draft a starter, Mason, Ben got pissy

See that doesn't make sense to me (one reason of many why I'm not working in an NFL FO). Why spend draft capital in a QB to be a backup that you don't expect to be capable of winning the starting job? There are plenty of backup QBs to be had for reasonable money through FA, waivers, and other teams practice squads. I wouldn't draft a QB unless I thought there was a high probability that the guy could compete to be a starter.

Colbert has been a great GM, keep in mind he regularly picks around #20.

LOL at that list of late round QBs.

Besides Brady you have to go back a long time.

The QB that succeed are probably 80% in the first round. Right now decent QBs not drafted in the first include Brady, Dak, and Russell Wilson. Off the top of my head. Is there someone I'm missing?

    Cousins, Carr, Jimmy G.

No one is mentioning Joe Montana for the all-time list. He was a 3rd round pick and a decent starter for the 80s.

Exactly. Good management will allow a turnover of important positions by bringing in the successor well ahead of the change, so the transition is as seamless as possible. If it's a hire from within, they are there already, and this should be a fairly simple event. JMO>
