One thing I will probably never understand...is how people crap on some moves (not just this one particularly)...when you don't even know how it will turn out. Just because a player was average or whatever elsewhere doesn't mean he can't improve in Pittsburgh. In this case they have one of the best D-Line coaches in the league to help coach him up and so on. Not saying he will turn into a stud/etc...but still....SMH!

I can't complain about the signing they need some depth at the position.

I just see it being a panic move and KC has been known to do that before. our best coach in the league couldn't make our 1st round pick better, or fangupo so I'm not holding out a lot of hope on a subpar player, just because we panic. it just smells of all the bad contracts, and bad drafting that put us in the mess we are in money wise and player wise. why now? did we really think he would get away? couldn't we have waited? low budget cheap warm bodies because we have nobody else and no money move. I'm sure he will be all pro by the end of the season though.

Yes that is of course the other side of the coin...some players can only get so good even with good coaching. Who knows what will happen with the guy...but I just hate when people immediately crap on something...especially a small depth signing like this.

Mac... Eat a Snickers, you`re not yourself today.. LOL...
    Not just in this thread.
I`ve never seen you so grumpy/hostile.
I`m not happy we let Hood and Woods go, either.
We definitely got thin at experienced D-linemen, real quick, but, weren`t you high on our potential behind them?
Surprised to see you so vocal about K.C., today.
If you complained about it before, I guess I just didn`t notice. Never seemed so blunt, before.
No idea who "Baby Zilla/ Cam Thomas", is, but doesn`t sound like he is gonna be around for more than depth, from what I`m reading, and looks like we could use some, right now.
    GO STEELERS!
Cleveland Rocks!!! Can you believe how they are tearing up free agency?!?
We should just forfiet our games with them this year.
No way we can beat a team as good as they are gonna be.
Especially with all those draft picks they have...
They are gonna find the first qb to lead them to a superbowl... EVER... lol!!!:roflmao::yeehaw:

I am just frustrated by signings like this. we are trying to build a championship team I thought. we have no money to do it with. we have two drafts of late that not one player is left from. we have had two kiss your sister seasons back to back and this is the best we can do? we expect every player to give us a discount just to play here or money back and it's looking like that has slapped us in the face again. we give this cat 2 mil a year, while we lose woods for 1.9 mil. a year. we lose Woodley for 6 mil. a year while we have to pay 14 mil. for him not to be here. we are still paying colon 4.3 mil. for being out of football as of now. just to many stupid signings and no plan moving forward. did we really need another mid level FS at this point? I like Mitchell but c'mon. I'm losing any faith I used to have in Colbert. while my seat costs go up every year the talent on the field seems to be going the other way. very frustrating GP.

I personally think this is a good signing. Any chance at upgrading NT position is fine with me.

I think it's more of a stop-gap in a long re-building process. This could take awhile.

    Trends.

The offense is on the back half of rebuilding. The defense is next. After the defense is solid you bring in a young QB (Ben retired) and win with great D.

I think this draft will change the mold of O D alternation in the draft. Well go D.

    And Troy to DE

Check with their agents. If the money is right maybe? :smiley1:

Seems like some are forgetting McLendon was a DE. If this move frees him to go back to his best position then it is a very good move. McL is just to quick and agile to be bogged down there in the middle. A tandem of Cam Heyward and McL sounds very formidable to me.

Also seem to be forgetting Hood is gone. Oh! And Keisel will not likely be back.

Just for laughs I was thinking that frequently Hood was called out here for not doing anything. But he usually did this upright. Now this new guy in the middle may also not do anything either but at least he will probably be on the ground. Then maybe opposing RB's will at least trip over him once in a while. Seems like an improvement to me.:smiley1:

we also fattened up mclendon to play the nose, so just moving him back to DE doesn't seem like it will have the same effect as when he was 290. I do like arnfelt and heyward. I think mclendon does a good job at NT, he just couldn't stay healthy last year. I think we could have done just as well getting a PS player from another team to put behind him or leave fangupo here. if he wasn't in the plans, then why didn't we make a move last year to find someone else? we kept fangupo on the active roster just to bring in a new backup this year. moves always seem to be a day late and a dollar short. 2 mil. a year is significant when we only had 4 mil. to play with. how were we ever going to sign Carrington if we wanted too? we needed DE's yet we get a NT.

we are running out of moves to make and vets to not re-sign. we gave up two draft picks last year for a safety and yet we extend an old one, sign another old one and sign another new one. we have 3 of our better defensive players (allen, worilds and heyward) in the last year of their contracts. which one or ones of these guys will we lose next year? without anyone behind them I might add. we have a center in the last year of his contract. we have one RB. no punter. I just don't see where all this is going. is there really a plan?

IMO they need to kick McLendon out to DE, sign Carrington and draft a guy for the future. Cam is the starting NT and Carrington and Heyward are the starting DE's with McLendon, Arnfelt and Williams as the rotation guys.
    There's the plan!

They are making moves to fill spots. Yea, I wish that Al Woods would have been retained, but he wasn't. Depth is needed. Not a cap killer.

We signed baby zilla because Woods left. Bottom line. I said is a different post we'd be better off signing a NT than a FA DE.
I just hope we skip on the Carrington issue, pass on that and resign Keisel and Draft a DE in the 1st 2 RDs.

I guess Fangupo is a washout, shame, I had hopes for him.

OH Please No!!! Carrington is worse than Hood and Hood was just okay as a 2-gap 5-tech. Hood was strong and stout but just couldn't control 2 gaps and shed his blocker to make the play consistently. Carrington is a downgrade even.

Cam though is more of a NT in build is weaker and can't hold his ground as well as McLendon. In fact and ya'll heard it here 1st, McLendon would be a PURE BEAST at the 1-tech in a 4-3......... But here in da burgh we play 3-4 so he's our starting zero-tech @ NT. He's not as Stout as Hampton was but much quicker. His quickness is why many want him back at DE. Now if we could sign Wilfork/Cody then move him outside then that might have worked.

You put Cam & Carrington in as starters and we'll have the worse run defense in the league and Brady may just 700 on us next time he plays.

We will not take Ebron with the 15th overall pick. Bank on it. If we can trade down in the first and still get him, maybe!

He wasn't brought in to start, he's back up material, depth.

TTF posted an article in one of these threads, Carrington is actually pretty good when used correctly.

How do we know that for sure? If he outplays the other NT's won't he get the job?
