Guess they exchanged Woods for this guy. I remember during his draft year people calling for us to take him. Lets see what he can do.

This guy wont beat out Big Mac. The chargers averaged letting up 4.6 yards a carry up the middle and he wasn't even the starter the steelers were second in the league stopping runs up the middle. Steelers fans have a problem with judging guys with how they look. If he doesn't look like Hampton he isn't as good. it happens with RBs as well. If they aren't as big as the bus they aren't a Steelers type running.

I agree with your statement on appearances but come on. McClendon very rarely even commanded a double team. he is not the answer at nt

He's not Casey Hampton circa 2002, but the "doesn't command double teams" stuff is exaggerated.

Exactly and he will never be as good as Hampton but I guess Timmons sucks because he will never be as good as Lambert.

most people are saying when you read about this signing that McClendon is maybe moving to de. I think this would be better for him and us

I have to disagree with you here unless I am missing your meaning. common sense tells you if it takes two people to block one someone gets freed up.

I'm saying that people who say he doesn't are exaggerating.

People have been saying that about him moving to DE for over a year and a half. I don't know why fanbases repeatedly do that with players. There's always a guy or two who people want to move to a different position. It starts out slow and turns into a grassroots movement. So and so to ILB. Pouncey to G also.

Maybe they do move him to DE permanently, though, I don't see them doing it this year. Not without giving him ample time to adjust beforehand, at least. Telling a guy to drop x amount of weight and play a different style/position, after he preformed as expected his first year at starter doesn't really make a lot of sense. Generally, those types of changes aren't sudden.

I'd like to see them get more creative in general with personnel in a hybrid 3-4. Time will tell.

I'll have to see the dollars and breakdown to really know what I think of this signing, but I really don't like the player at all. San Diego was more than happy to see him move on, and I can't see anything much higher than a bit over vet minimum being a decent value for him. I think he's a backup, and backup only. To me this reeks of a "crap, we'd better bring in a warm body" signing.

I guess now's not the right time to make my pitch for moving Spaeth to corner...

Oops... let me try that again:

Man, one of those is sure to show up in the comments of a news article tomorrow. Next week, it'll be in Ed Bouchette's chat. The week after, a blogger will write about this original idea they have and why it's such a good idea...

Whao now!! The good lord wasn't even as good as Lambert and he had Chuck Norris holding his jock strap. So how in the world would Timmons stand a chance.

Exactly my point Hampton might just be the most dominant NT to ever play in the 3-4. I remember watching in amazement when DL would have him roll out and cover the flat.
