DeCastro Ruled Out And Other Injury News

David DeCastro has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against New England. Markus Wheaton (finger) and Curtis Brown (non-injury) have also been ruled out for the Patriots game.

Ramon Foster (concussion) and Guy Whimper (knee) are listed as probable. Ramon Foster has to pass one more concussion test tomorrow to be able to play. When asked about the test, Foster said, “I should be pretty sharp”. Guy Whimper will start in DeCastro’s place, and has been preparing to do so in practice.

David DeCastro Did Not Practice Again Today

David DeCastro missed practice again today due to his injured ankle. The hope is that he’ll be able to return to practice on Friday. For what it’s worth, Marcus Gilbert said earlier today that he expects all of the offensive linemen to be ready to go this weekend, including DeCastro.

Markus Wheaton was limited today in practice. His first participation since having surgery on his broken pinky.

Ramon Foster and Guy Whimper practiced fully today. Heath Miller, Ben Roethlisberger, and Steve McLendon were full participants, as well.

Foster passed his first ImPACT test on Tuesday and will need to pass the second one tomorrow to be able to play on Sunday against the Patriots.

Edit- Curtis Brown was excused from practice today for personal reasons.

Steelers Appear To Have Dodged Serious Injury Bullet

Coach Tomlin gave injury updates to the media during his press conference earlier, and the news sounded pretty promising.

Ramon Foster, who left the Raiders game with a concussion, has been cleared to practice. Coach Tomlin said, “We’ll let that practice participation dictate where we go with him. Obviously, with that concussion, we’ll do what’s appropriate like we always do.”

David DeCastro will be limited early in the week, maybe with an opportunity to play with his ankle injury.

Guy Whimper could be limited in the early portion of the week with his hyper-extended knee, but he’s expected to be available for the game and to practice at some point.

Steve McLendon was ill yesterday and was sent home.

Markus Wheaton’s finger fracture is being evaluated to see what his availability will be for the game this week, and for practice.

Lawrence Timmons continues to work through his hand injury, but it didn’t effect his availability during the Raiders game, and it’s not expected to for the Patriots game either.

David DeCastro: “I’ll Do My Best To Get Back ASAP”

David DeCastro was on 97.3 The Fan this morning for his weekly radio interview. When asked about his injury, DeCastro said “I’ll do my best to get back as soon as possible”. He wouldn’t get into the specific details of his injury or how long he expected to be sidelined, but it did not sound like he expected to be available to return this week.

The injury happened in the 3rd quarter when Raiders CB Tracy Porter was blocked into the back of DeCastro’s lower leg. He attempted to play through it with a very noticeable limp on the next play, but subsequently stayed out for the remainder of the game. We’ll know more about his injury in the next couple hours.

Wheaton And Gordon Officially Ruled Out For Sunday

Like last Friday, TE Richard Gordon and WR Markus Wheaton have been ruled out for Sunday’s game. Coach Tomlin said on Tuesday that Wheaton would continue to be out, and he hasn’t practiced all week, so this isn’t a revelation by any means. Despite having participated fully on Thursday and Friday, Richard Gordon has been ruled out again this week. Gordon injured his great toe during his first practice with the team.

The only new addition to the injury report was Ramon Foster (thumb), though he participated fully. Aside from Foster- Beachum (ribs), Gilbert (quad),  Keisel (ribs) and Miller (non-injury) all participated fully today.

Coach Tomlin: ‘Laundry List’ Of Injuries This Week

Mike Tomlin gave an injury update today during his weekly press conference. Tomlin said the injury list is typical of a week following a Ravens match up. ‘There’s a laundry list of injuries we’re dealing with that will effect how we work during portions of this week.’

Kelvin Beachum– Has a right rib injury that could limit him during the early portion of the week.

LaMarr Woodley– Has a right knee that could limit him.

Lawrence Timmons– Broke his left hand. Tomlin said, “It has been casted and he’s ready to go”. That happened late in the 3rd/early 4th quarter in the Ravens game, and he was able to finish. He has full mobility in all his fingers, and it as been secured with a cast.

Brett Keisel– Left rib injury that could limit him early in the week.

Richard Gordon– Great toe sprain that makes him questionable.

Marcus Gilbert– Right quad injury that didn’t allow him to finish the game. Still an issue.

Jerricho Cotchery– Abdominal strain that will limit him in the early portion of the week.

Cam Heyward– Had an illness and was sent home yesterday. Hopefully he’ll be getting well and will be back soon.

Markus Wheaton– He’s been out, and will continue to be out.

Maurkice Pouncey is in Birmingham getting a check up. Levi Brown is also there having an unspecified surgical procedure done.

Lawrence Timmons Has A Fracture In His Left Hand

Mike Prisuta reports this morning that Lawrence Timmons has a cast on his left hand.

According to Prisuta, Timmons says he has a minor fracture, and it won’t prevent him from playing and doing what he wants to do. Hopefully, it’s as minor as Timmons suggests. We’ll hear more about it shortly when Coach Tomlin addresses the media for his weekly press conference.

Sean Spence Expects To Sit Out This Week

Sean Spence told Scout writer Jim Wexell on Sunday that he’ll miss practice this week due to a broken finger. https://twitter.com/jimwexell/status/392291817393496064

This is bad news for Spence who had a limited window of opportunity to show the coaching staff that he’s ready and able to be activated to the 53 man active roster after next week. While that may have been a long shot without the finger injury, this almost certainly means that he will be sent to IR for the remainder of the season.
