Bengals Have Released James Harrison

The Cincinnati Bengals have released veteran linebacker James Harrison today, the team has announced. The release probably wasn’t a surprise, as the move saves the team over $1.4 Mil. The former Steelers sack artist was in the last year of his contract.

Harrison wasn’t exactly a difference maker in Cincy, and the signing never really made much sense. I’m sure the question will be asked many, many times in the coming days- could Harrison return to Pittsburgh? The answer- probably not. Stranger things have happened, and of course, almost anything’s possible, but “Deebo” will be 36 in May, and he may have likely burned all bridges on his way out of Pittsburgh.

He has reportedly said that he wishes to continue playing, so who knows what his future holds.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to share with your friends.

Raiders And Titans Showing Early Interest In LaMarr Woodley

According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, LaMarr Woodley is scheduled to visit the Oakland Raiders today. As you most certainly know, Woodley was officially released by the Steelers at 4:00 pm yesterday, with a June 1st designation. The move will free $8 Mil in cap space for the Steelers on June 2nd.

The Raiders run a 4-3 defensive base, but it’s no surprise that they would seek to move Woodley to a 4-3 defensive end. The Tennessee Titans have also expressed interest in him, according to Tennessean reporter Jim Wyatt. Tennessee is where I originally thought Woodley would land after being cut by the Steelers. I imagine there will be a couple other interested parties before Woodley finds a new team.

Many have asked if the Steelers would or could resign Woodley during the summer. I think I have a greater chance of being signed as the backup long snapper tomorrow.

Teams Being Told That Rashard Mendenhall Is Retiring

*Updated* Former Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall is set to retire according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The former 1st round draft pick played five seasons for the Steelers before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.

Mendenhall hinted at possibly retiring last month in an article at The Huffington Post. The article was a bit…unusual, but the subtext was hard to miss. The former Steelers back who was much maligned for his “dance moves”, finishes his career with 4,236 rushing yards, 39 total touchdowns and an average of 3.9 yards per carry.

Safety Ryan Mundy (FA) and QB Dennis Dixon (Bills PS) are the two remaining active players from the Steelers 2008 draft class.

Mendenhall’s agent Mike McCarthy confirmed the reports via his twitter account.

Lastly, here’s Mendenhall’s (rather wordy) explanation of why he’s retiring. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rashard-mendenhall/rashard-mendenhall-retirement-_b_4931316.html

Rashard Mendenhall Had A Vision, Possibly Mulls Retirement?

As most Steelers fans will probably agree, former Steelers Running Back Rashard Mendenhall isn’t easy to figure out. At least, he’s been known to say a thing or two that caused its share of controversy.

Mendenhall occasionally writes for The Huffington Post. His latest posting has some people wondering if he may be hinting at retiring from the NFL soon.

In the aforementioned article, the 2008 first round pick says that the day after he tore his ACL in January of 2012, he had a vision. He saw himself in a dark and turbulent ocean. I’ll let you read the rest for yourself.

Mendenhall was the Steelers number 1 pick in the 2008 draft. Considered by many to be a dancer at the line of scrimmage, he rushed for over 1000 yards in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He tore his ACL during the first week of January in 2012. He returned from his ACL injury in October, but missed the majority of the 2012 season due to injury, and missed some time for non-injury reasons as well.

He was signed by the Arizona Cardinals last March to a one year, $2.5 Mil deal, which included $500,000 guaranteed. He was hampered by injury for most of the year, and finished the season with 687 yards.

Now entering free agency again, the subtext of his article may have been that he believes his time has come to return as a feature back, or as some think, it may be that he’s contemplating retirement. We’ll know one way or the other soon enough.

Kevin Greene Is Stepping Away From Coaching

Former Steelers Linebacker Kevin Greene has announced that he is stepping away from coaching. Greene has been the outside linebackers coach for the Green Bay Packers since 2009. During that time, the Packers linebackers were 4th in the league for total sacks.

Regarding his decision to step down, Greene said, “I am stepping away from the NFL at this time in order to spend more time with my wife, Tara, and our children, Gavin and Gabrielle. I will miss coaching and will try to return after our kids move on to college if a team will have me.”

Greene was a linebacker for the Steelers from 1993-1995. During that time, he amassed 35.5 sacks. The former outside linebacker is currently a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The third straight year he’s been voted a finalist.

Patriots Sign WR Reggie Dunn To Practice Squad

The Patriots have signed former Steelers undrafted free agent Reggie Dunn to their practice squad. Dunn was with the Steelers in camp, but was cut during the final roster selections. Since then, he has been signed by the Packers, Browns, and Dolphins to their respective practice squads. The Patriots are said to be using him in practice today to mirror the Colts’ dynamic receiver TY Hilton.

Patriots CB Aqib Talib was impressed with the rookie WR saying, “He ran fast, he ran through the defense, he ran under routes. He did what T.Y. Hilton does. He gave us a good look”.
