Isaac Redman Expected To Practice Today

Redman will practice today after leaving Monday night’s game early with a “stinger”. Assuming he’s good to go, Redman should be getting lots of carries Saturday night against the Chiefs. He is listed as co-starter on the depth chart again this week. When asked about Bell being hurt today, Redman said,

“I prepare week in and week out like I’m the No. 1 guy. Now, with Le’Veon down, I’ve got to step up.”

It will be interesting to get a good look at Redman Saturday night, and beyond that, to see who fills the starting role while Bell is sidelined.

Le’Veon Bell Had MRI Tuesday, No Results Available Yet

The Steelers released a statement regarding Le’Veon Bell’s injury this morning. Coach Tomlin said in the statement that Bell did in fact have a MRI yesterday, but the team is still awaiting the diagnosis. Furthermore, the team is also waiting for the results of a second opinion.  Bell is already ruled out of Saturday’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tomlin added in the statement that he will provide updates when they become available in the next couple days. You can draw your own conclusions, but generally minor sprains do not require second opinions.

Redskins Post-Game Injury Report

During the course of the Redskins game, the Steelers suffered a few injuries. Some very minor, others TBD.

Le’Veon Bell left the game early after a tackle by Barry Cofield, with what’s being called a mid foot sprain. Coach Tomlin said he will get a MRI tomorrow to determine the severity. Not to be an alarmist, but early rumors are that this may sideline him for weeks. Hopefully the rumors don’t prove true.

Terry Hawthorne left the game with leg cramps.

Baron Batch left with a stinger and did not return.

Will Johnson left the game due to a hit to the helmet by S DeJon Gomes. He was said to have suffered a rib injury from the hit and did not return.

I’ll update as soon as I hear an update on Bell and Johnson’s injury.

Le’Veon Bell To Start Vs. Redskins

Mike Prisuta is reporting that Le’Veon Bell will be starting against the Redskins tonight. After bruising his knee on Thursday, it didn’t seem likely that he would see playing time tonight.

Bell, who said last spring that he’s never missed a practice due to an injury -all the way back to Pop Warner – clearly has a history of durability. He practiced Friday and Saturday, and is said to have a clean bill of health, so the coaching staff seems to see no need to sit him tonight. This is great news, and certainly all of Steeler Nation is excited to see him in action tonight.

Ryan Clark: ‘Wheaton Is Better Than Wallace’

Ryan Clark was on The Fan earlier today discussing his desire to finish his career as a Steeler, the difference that Troy makes, how talented Shamarko Thomas is, and replacing James Harrison. In the middle of all that, he reveals his enthusiasm for Markus Wheaton and his optimism for this season.

“I’m going to say something here about the Mike Wallace thing…Markus Wheaton, and you can take this how you want…Markus Wheaton is better than Michael Wallace at everything but one thing. Speed. That’s it. He does everything else better…as far as route running, he’s more polished. I think he has better hands…I think he’s ready to step in and play.”, said Clark.

He goes on to say how getting the backs healthy and adding LaRod Stephens-Howling will compensate for losing Rashard Mendenhall. “We had Mendy, we didn’t have Mendenhall. We only had half a guy”, Clark said jokingly.

Le’Veon Bell Has Bruised Knee- Not From Live Tackling

Le’veon Bell spoke with media at Latrobe today and alleviated some fears about the severity of his knee injury. Bell says that he aggravated his previously injured knee and that it’s nothing serious. Although he still wants to play Monday night, it doesn’t seem likely that the team will take the chance by putting him in.

One important note- Bell was not tackled. He was hurt when he landed wrong after being contacted by Steve McLendon. The protocols of the drill were followed, and Bell doesn’t blame the defense. He said he let up and slowed down a little too much on the play, and fell on the knee wrong.

I’ll refrain from making a Chuck Norris type Steve McLendon joke here. You’re welcome.

Steelers Sign RB Jeremy Wright, Release K Daniel Hrapmann

The team announced that they have signed Running Back Jeremy Wright today. Daniel Hrapmann was released to make room on the roster.

Wright was signed by the Giants as an UDFA this spring after declaring for the draft early. He was waived by them in June. Wright is 5’11”, 205 pounds. During his last season at Louisville, he totalled 824 yards with 211 rushes with 10 touchdowns. He was used in the kickoff return game there as well, with an avg of 25 yards per return after 40 returns. He’ll wear #37 during his time here.

Hrapmann, who many fans hoped would replace Shaun Suisham last year, was released during the first round of cuts last August. There wasn’t much danger to Suisham’s job this preseason, and Hrapmann was an expected roster cut later this month. He was listed on the AFL’s New Orleans Voodoo roster this past season.

Le’Veon Bell And Isaac Redman Hurt During Practice

Both Le’veon Bell and Isaac Redman were hurt during practice today. Redman took a big hit by Larry Foote, Lawrence Timmons, or the back of a linemen (depending who you ask), during the first play of 11 on 11 drills. Tomlin said it was a stinger. Redman said the same and that he’d be fine.

Bell was finishing a 15 yard run to the outside during a non-contact drill when he was brought down by various members of the defense. Coach Tomlin said he was being evaluated and that he aggravated his left knee that caused him to miss the first preseason game last week. Bell said that he ‘just fell wrong’ and that he would ‘try his best to play’ on Monday. Though his injury was related to contact, the drill was not supposed to be a live one.

Jarvis Jones was also said to have ‘tweaked his groin’ today, but it didn’t appear to be serious. He wasn’t mentioned by Coach Tomlin when he addressed the media.

Curtis Brown Returns To Practice

CB Curtis Brown, who hurt his ankle last Monday, returned to practice today for the first time since the injury. This is welcome news considering the amount of injuries at the Cornerback position. Hopefully for Brown, he will be able to participate in Monday’s game versus the Redskins. He missed the first preseason game due to the ankle injury.
