And that is why I never shut up about coaching. You can have all the talent in the world, but if they are not used properly, coached properly, and/or gameplanned properly, that talent goes to waste and cannot sustain a high level of competition.

For those of you mental midget trolls, the word "sustain" was used. It means that they are good for splash plays and isolated successes, but they cannot put together many complete games, let alone complete seasons.

Which is why the Browns have failed more than any other team despite the fact that they have drafted higher than any other team in modern history.

    What about this tidbit-
Tomlin has more SB rings than the HOFer Cowher.
Is that the players fault? :drinks:

I had/have a couple hundred+ games on VHS from the 1990's-2000's but I haven't laid eyes on them in several years. My friend started saving games for me on hard drive in the mid 2000's but NFL Game Pass offers every game from 2009 thru present on their website, so that's where I go to rewatch games and 'game film'(all 22 view).

I have the first 4 Super Bowls on the original vhs tapes In original packaging. I haven’t had a vhs player since the last century. I just can’t make myself toss the tapes.

Talking out of your ass as usual, if Duck doesn't melt down at the end of the season this team wins 10 games, and goes to the playoffs.

Even if thats true, it's not like Ben is going up directly against the opposing QB. It's fun to compare QBs and label a matchup Ben vs Brees or etc. But the reality is it is Ben vs the defense and vise versa. I think Ben can shootout with anybody, and I like our defense to hold up their end of the bargain.

How do you figure? Are you counting Tomlin's ring in Tampa? I am not sure a ring as a Dbacks coach should count when comparing the two. To me they are both 1-1.

It's more about the players imo. Tomlin has more rings because of the players on the field.

Cowher was a better coach than Tomlin. If he didn't tap out when he did he would have at least 2 rings & Tomlin would have been fired from the Vikings, coaching in Virginia somewhere.

Like Bill, Tomlin has done a great job when one takes his limitations into account. One of the most successful HCs the past decade.

Could the Lions and Bengals be in that conversation???? When I tell Steeler fans I'm worried about the Bengals new QB some say, yeah they got a QB now but the Bengals don't have a good track record in development. They sure as hell gave their last head coach a ton of leeway. Poor Marvin:)

Meh;+). He has a average QBR rating of 69.9, and has the lowest QBR rating to date in a SB I believe 22.6 (at least for a winner), and more INTs then TDs for his career...usually if that were a person's overall stats you wouldn't expect the person to have one SB win, but I'm glad he has 2. You take em how you can get em (as long as u don't cheat in the process). No one said it had to be pretty

Ben's low rating in XL does kind of skew the numbers a bit. Ben started off the Packers Super Bowl terrible, but had us in position to win that game in the 4th. Drops and fumbles by Wallace and Mendy killed that. It's hard to say he could have played much better against Zona than he did.

Well just going off my own gut and intuition, it seems to me the "Any given Sunday" phrase holds true. Barely beating inferior teams or blowing out competitive teams doesn't seem to correlate or show a repeating pattern. I just think its about getting the W whether its pretty or not and us Steelers fans know it isn't always pretty... probably most of the time its not but we get it done better than most teams.

Also, if there is any running theme throughout the different Steelers corps over the years, it's that they really do seem to play to the level of the competition. This can be mind numbingly frustrating at times or cause sheer panic other times. But I'll take that if we can hold on to our knack for getting hot when it counts and finding ways to win important games.

I don't know if I'm confident about this current team winning it all this year but I am confident we will make the playoffs. The postponement hurts us sure but hopefully it motivates us to shoot for a first round bye (although that bye seems it can be a curse as well). We are 3-0 against not the best teams but if we can put down a couple competitive teams I will be more confident we can win it all this year just as much as any other team.

I like our team, if coaches can prepare correctly and we stay away from injuries
i think we can lock down a playoff spot. Once there it can be anybody's game Look at MLB, NBA.

Is this a trick question? Or just a stupid one?

They both have one ring as a head coach.

Since Tomlin won his ring with Cowhers players, I would say yes, it is the players fault that Tomlin has a ring.:drinks:

If you go to this thread you will see that I don't place a huge emphasis on talent when that's all you have.
    http://thesteelersfans.com/forums/t...-nfl-team-from-a-different-perspective.24498/

Is it poor Marvin because he coached in a dis-functional organization or was he a key component in the dis-function? Either way, the Bengals were a dumpster fire under his leadership with some extremely talented teams. The Bengals wouldn't score much better than the Browns if at all.

Thus.................the Bengals will be the Bengals until they are not:drinks:

The Washington Whatevers are making a strong case to be added to that conversation also. I know they have a much better history, but that's the past. They're making a run at the Browns' tradition of starting a new quarterback every other week.

I tend to think it is more a function of the organizational dysfunction. I'd bet the Cowboys would be much better off right now with Marvin on the sidelines instead of the dolt they have now. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Marvin is one one of the two Texas teams' sidelines next year.

Btw, it still irks me that we lost 2 Superbowls to arguably the 2 worst head coaches to ever win it in Switzer and McCarthy.
