I'll say again 9th againt the pass 21st against The run. Cortez Allen was injured the first half of the year and troy was playing lber. Who knows more about his system lebaeu or you? The difference between now and then is we had Porter, Haggans, Harrison, and Woodley who were all getting sacks. We are a zone d not a cover 2. Lbers are the lead drivers in our convoy we go as they go.

 

I didn't like that comment from Lebeau he's just taking up for his guys, he's acting like they don't need more talent in the secondary which is crap.

 

Ike, Townsend, McFadden, and gay were the biggest contributors at corner for our super bowl run. Mitchell is every bit as good as Clark ever was. Everyone seems to forget we brought him in. Our corners are either going to be playing cover 3 or cover 4. Ike manned up as did Allen last year once he got healthy and he did a very good job against the other teams best. Last year was Allen 6th year ever playing football that is still raw. Ithink he is going to be a very solid this year.

 

If you go back and watch you'll see that the majority of our problems came from poor play at safety and lb. Ryan Clark clearly had lost a step and tried to guess, more often than not he was wrong. In the process that left the CB hanging out to dry. We also saw Troy playing a lb role trying to cover up deficiencies in Williams and Garvin. We addressed safety with Mitchell and lb with Shazier and Zumwalt. I'm not saying that there isn't a need at CB. However, it's not as simple as draft a CB early and our defense is saved.

Give jones a year or two more before you write him off. He has a lot of heart, a great work ethic, and is a football genius. He needs some time to learn to run a real offense

 

I just read an interesting stat on Elkins that he didn't let up a sack in four years of starting and only like 4 qb pressures. Can anyone confirm this because I know they played and beat Pitt in 2012 which means he came across Donald. There's no way that's right they had to be talking about his senior year. Either way I'mpulling hard for this kid being hhe's a western PA boy.

Wish we would have signed Richardson from Tennessee after the draft. He will surprise people. I think he will be a starter next year and for a long time to come for the Vikings.

I agree with PWP. I don't think there's any immediate impact that addresses this years needs. Maybe 2-3 years from now, they'll all be impact players?

I understand and that Lebeau is probably wanting to see more pressure up front to help the cb's, but cb & safety is an issue.

I understand, but one injury to Ike or Troy, and where does that really leave us? They are both very old for their positions. Mitchell is new to the team, so he's an unknown replacing Clark. I'm not argumentative either way, but we're obviously going to have to wait until the season starts to get our final answers.

And honestly, Troy/Mitchell/Shamarko/W Allen are safeties. C Allen/Gay/Ike are the only legitimate CB's, it'll remain to be seen if a 5th round Richardson can make the team.

 

I'll echo what another has already stated, just adding another CB is not the magical solution to the D. I don't think Dennard was the answer so I agree with the Steelers on Shazier or Mosley. They went Ryan and I can certainly see why.

The greatest CB on the planet can't mimic, thus cover, every step of a world class receiver. Pressure that QB and get the ball coming out all over the place or not at all and Ike will look every part the top CB he is even in his old age.

the thing that bothers me the most is I don't see enough corners on this team period
do we want the 3 guys we are going to be relying on in the season playing into the 4th quarter of exhibition games?
