Is Jason Myers available from Jacksonville yet? I'd be willing to take a chance for that leg....

Heard an interview with Jeff Reed. He said he can still kick. And since the Steelers no longer care about character, let's try him out.

I guarantee he can still kick the crap out of a towel dispenser. If he can do that then lets get Skippy back!

He can kick the Sheetz out of a towel dispenser and he can get kicked out of a hall of fame game but he sure as hell can't kick a football through the uprights anymore as a Steeler lol

We need 2 kickers, one for field goals, one kicking off thru the end zone.

Something I've been thinking about for a while re. kick offs.

I don't think that we do need someone who can kick off through the end zone. I would rather have an ST unit that can make a tackle and pin the team back behind their own 20. Other teams seem to do this to us regularly - so why can't we? The problem is less the kicker, and more the functioning of the unit.

Maybe it's just that Danny Smith needs more gum.

Not possible. By the end of the season, Danny Smith will have exhausted the world's supplies. He'll be forced to retire.

I'm sure the team may wait until after Tuesday's cuts to bring in some kickers, but here a few names to keep in mind other than the usual veterans.

Nate Freese - drafted by the lions last year, he was highly rated out of college but released after missing 4 FGs in the first 3 games. Could be worth a tryout.

Travis Coons - with Cleveland now but may be cut. Has had a decent camp with them.

Dustin Hopkins or Zach Hocker - both with New Orleans and having a battle for the spot on the team.

The UDFA kicker for Arizona set a rookie record last year IIRC, so some of the younger guys may be worth a look.

I'm probably going to risk taking this post perhaps too seriously, but...

One of the problems is that kicking is different to punting in terms of transferable skills from other sports. Aussie Rules make good punters, because the technique they use is virtually the same, and the ball is a similar size. But they don't have place kicking in that sport, as far as I know.

In rugby, where they do have a lot of placekicking, because the ball is bigger, the 'sweet spot' to hit is also comparatively bigger, so it's more difficult for a rugby player to be accurate and long with an NFL ball. Certainly not impossible, of course. Same with soccer... though there is the exception, of course:

But a lot of the 'foreign' guys like Mick Luckhurst (if anyone's that good on NFL history) or Janikowski were really products of the US system.

With our luck and timing - we'll probably have to settle for John Hamm.

San Diego Chargers got a rookie kicker name Josh Lambo. Looks like a future pro-bowler who can consistently kick the ball in the end zone. He will be cut soon because the Chargers already got a veteran kicker name Nick Novak. Josh Lambo is the name to look for...

What's the prognosis on Hartley anyway? I guess they've been mum so far on his injury?
