Would the Patriots tank for Trevor Lawrence?

Patriots have made absolutely no moves to replace Brady and let him walk even though it would cost them 13 mil in dead cap money this year.

Should be curious to see what the Pats do with their 2 3rd round comp picks; trade out of 2020 and into 2021?

Of course a lot of mock Draft's have the Patriots taking QB Eason at 23.

I could easily see Belichick moving upstairs, to setup the next great Dynasty for McDaniels with Lawrence.

Unless there is a move to sign Newton or Winston soon; my money will be on Bill doing what he does best by trying to cheat the system.

I don’t ever recall a team losing so many players in free agency all at once and still have no cap space. I don’t think they are tanking, I think they went all in in recent years, kicked money down the road and now need a few years of tidying up their cap and rebuilding the roster. They still have a few stars but they are no threat whatsoever for the AFC championship next season imo.

They have a lot of comp picks this year and will have even more next year with all these departures. If Belichick can sort out the QB position I think they can be back challenging again soon. That’s a big if though.

One thing to note is that with Brady gone I don’t think they will be able to lure free agents there to play on bargain contracts any more. This was an important part of their success because they don’t tend to draft especially well. With Brady and Gronk departed they are no longer guaranteed the #1 seed and a trip to the SB each year, it’s not such an attractive destination any more, the magic is gone.

Still no QB Free Agent or QB Draft picks, and now they just added 2 undrafted QBs to their roster.

And then there was the whole Gronk trade.

Patriots 2020 Draft class also very suspect as they seemed to go out of their way not to add any playmakers.

And yet if you look at the Vegas sportsbooks, the Patriots have better odds to win the Super Bowl than the Steelers.

I would be okay with the Steelers tanking for Lawrence

I think that is probably based on the likelihood that MT continues to be outcoached in the playoffs, particularly by BB.
