I am not sure why she would be rooting for Derek Watt either, what a waste of money he has been to Steelers.

Quick question on PS how many times are players allowed on practice squad? And is this determined by your years
of service? Also what is our (Steelers) pecking order when claiming someone off another PS ?

They can get a younger, cheaper option to do what he does on special teams. Same with Snell. I thought it was ridiculous when people alleged, Watt was brought in to keep his brother happy. I think Watt, Allen and Maulet get shown the door. I hate it for any of the WR's that get cut. It is a good group. They should be able to get work with another team.

In a vacuum, yes... but its not always that easy. They need to keep players at other positions in this area in order to make ST players expendable. The real advantage for Watt is that we have actually zero other FB's on the roster. If we found another player at FB and felt ok with our ST unit, then maybe we could cut him. But just because a player is younger and cheaper, doesn't mean that it wont bring negative effect in other areas.

    I can answer number 3

    There is no pecking order

If you claim a player off of someone else PS you must put them in your 53 man roster

I would suspect if two teams did this instantaneously the team with lower prior year record would win but that would not happen

I believe Conner Heyward can handle this task.

NFL teams will be able to have 16 players on their practice squad. The number went up from 14 during the COVID019 pandemic.

Ten of the 16 players can have no more than two accrued seasons. The other six players don't have any limitations, which means veterans can be on the practice squad.

Players can be elevated up to three times during the year, which one game more than it was last season (two).

So if I am understanding you correctly, if we sign a practice player from another team he goes right to the 53 man roster? Can we then assign him back to our practice squad and pull someone from our existing Ps to 53 man roster.?

Watt was signed because he was good in San Diego. Blocking, ST, catching wheel routes.

The bigger question is why does Canada not use him at all?

I don't mean why is Watt not playing better, I mean why does he not play? Guy has like 20 snaps since he got here

Watt was always meant to be a ST signing first and foremost. But look at his touches

    4 years a Charger
    64 games. 29 touches 201 yards

    2 years a Steeler
    29 games. 4 touches 16 yards

So why did he go from averaging 2 plus touches per game to 1 touch every 7 games

I think Conner Heyward is officially TE3, but I see a few that think he is Watts replacement. I hope not.. if so then Conner will be stuck on the bench doing nothing

    Yes to first question

To take him off your roster you have to cut him then he is a FA and could/would just sign back to the original team

I believe he has earned over 8 million dollars already with Steelers and if they don't cut him this year another 4 million. Lets get younger and cheaper with Heyward.

Agreed, but that would make sense if they, you know, actually used a FB. I'm guessing, guessing that he has been on the field for less than 20% of the offensive snaps since they signed him. I get your point, I do. But, if they keep Connor Heyward like I believe they will, couldn't he do what Derek Watt does on ST's? Jaylen Samuels? I understand that Watt and Snell are good ST's players. But I have a hard time believing there would be a significant drop in play if they were gone.

    EDIT

I read some of the other posts, and I see that HACK has posted his actual touches (thanks, HACK). For what they are paying Watt versus what they use him for, he's not nearly worth what he is making.

I really don't think Conner and D Watt are competing with each other. I might be wrong but I firmly believe Watt is FB1 and Conner is TE3

At least I hope so because I think Conner can make some plays, I would hate to see him on the bench eating popcorn in the FB roll.

If you cut Watt you save about 2.7 mill. Are they cutting him just to do it or will they find a way to spend that cap?

Watt was signed to replace and for about the same money as Matakevich... in 33 games in Buffalo he has 42 tackles

    Watts ST resume

    • Special teams captain who led team in ST tackles

    • Recorded 55 special teams tackles (39 solo) are the eighth-most in the NFL since entering the League in 2016
    • His 51 special teams tackles (36 solo) are tied for the fourth-most in the NFL since 2017
    • His 37 special teams tackles (27 solo) are the third-most in the NFL since 2019
    • Registered 14 special teams tackles in 2021, which was tied for fifth in the NFL
    • Recorded 16 special teams tackles in 2019, which tied for the NFL lead
    • Only NFL player in 2019 with a rushing TD and at least 12 special teams tackles
    • Named first alternate and second alternate, respectively, for special teams and fullback for 2020 Pro Bowl

Looking at those stats, Watt IS pretty darn good on special teams.

What’s Snell look like in comparison?

I think all are in but the last 2 Allen get the cut for Robinson and Vaughn... It's just crowded. Vaughn to the PS I'd think no?
