Will the NFL become the 'modern NBA'?

The NBA is unwatchable. Its all three point shooting and no defense.

the NFL is getting there, restricting hitting the Qb. More protection for the receivers, alot more short passing games these days, the new kickoff format sucks too

 

No, because there just arent enough games, most teams dont start the season in tank mode. By the time they realize their season is doomed over half the season is over. Also tanking to get one player is risky because even if you get your QB you have created a culture that isnt great for attracting free agents, so you may still end up bad and ruin your QB in the process.

 

It's not that there is no incentive.

It's that the incentive is much less than in the NBA and the NHL (IMO) where those top couple picks are even more valuable relative to the other picks in the draft.

I think the idea that you think you can start your "tank plan" in game 13 (~ 77% of the season in the books) shows that you don't really think teams tank.

If a team is only starting to tank by game 13 (or later), they probably aren't going to get the top pick...which often requires something like 3 wins over 17 games.

 

All I can say is......We know which one is more popular, and by a wide margin.
If I was the most popular sport, I would try very hard to stay away from doing what a sport less popular than me does.
