I think Johnson will be used early and often to alleviate some of the pressure on the TE position. I expect a lot more traditional 2-back sets before Heath returns. Just like the article says, I believe he can catch 30+ passes this season.
    Thoughts?

I would certainly agree that any H-back type guy will get more opportunities with a TE down, but I'm not so sure that'll happen with Todd Haley at the helm. I should go back and watch some KC stuff, but as I recall, this role wasn't one that Haley focused on using much in the offense. Maybe it had more to do with the OC, but I'm not so sure Haley doesn't have some different focus, ie. the LSH focus we saw in preseason game one.

The other factor is Bell out the backfield, which I can't even speak to because we haven't seen anything yet. Or, I haven't anyway.

I just think there's not going to be a whole lot of "traditional" anything in Haley's offense. I would expect more focus on getting quick guys into space.

Maybe Monday night will give us a little more insight into Haley's approach. I think this is one of the more interesting aspects of preseason and how we as fans view what we see. Note that Ben talked about how not seeing the deep ball against the Giants was "intentional and part of the game plan". We spend a lot of time as fans watching individual performances because the game plan is generally so vanilla. But, let us not forget that those "vanilla" game plans are also going to start showing us the base concepts of the offensive strategies we'll be developing and installing. Obviously, as the season starts, there will also be game planning to take advantage of opposing team's weaknesses, but I'm inclined to think Haley is going to use Johnson less than we may think based on the Giants game.

But, this is a tough call after only one preseason game...

At the end of the day, I think 30 may be a bit high...probably more like 10-15.

Yep, there was a discussion on here about picking up Leech, I said I wouldn't bother, I think Will J will do a very good job for us, he can block and catch. I think he is going to be a good weapon.

If that's what he ends up with I'll be very disappointed considering he had more than that last year..

I have a "hunch" that Will Johnson will end up with more receptions this year than Cotchery. ;)

I really don't think they're worried too much about TE. People forget that Wil Johnson was fighting for the TE spot when he came to camp a few years back Don't know why they went with David Johnson, but Wil is better at the blocking aspect and it looks like he's comfortable catching as well now.

Hell I hope they keep the Palmer fellow before they keep David Johnson. Believe it or not, I'd also be closely watching who the Cardinals happen to cut or put on their practice squad.

Will Johnson is a very good athelete. The guy can move and catch the ball. I have liked what I have seen from him.

Of course YOU'D say that. You're a Steelers fan! How can we trust you to be honest? How can you trust yourself? You can't possibly evaluate a Steeler fairly. No way! Take off the rose colored glasses!!!
