He was available in the 6th round. If anyone thinks we found the future at QB I would suggest some therapy. Yeah there are a few hits in later rounds. When was the last time the Steelers developed a QB? Been a tad long time no? So the chances of this kid being anything but a backup or 3rd QB on the roster is living La Vida Loca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

During the years between Bradshaw's retirement and the drafting of Ben, the backup QB was always the most popular guy in PGH. We'd return to glory if only Noll (and later Cowher) would only dump the starter, whoever he might be, and start the backup, whoever he might be.

We're in such bad shape now, the fans are bypassing the backup QB and have fallen in love with the rookie 6th round THIRD QB. I'm predicting that by the time the 2026 draft comes around, half of us won't even remember Howard's name.

I have zero expectations for Howard. He might make an average 3rd stringer, but that's probably his ceiling. This being said, I hope he makes me look like an idiot and becomes the GOAT. I'll gladly admit to being wrong.

I just don't see the guy becoming a regular starter ever for us. He reminds me of Mason to much. He didn't have flashes of big splashes like Josh Allen, but people lost their minds that chuckie compared him to Allen (but that was because of size.)..

I'll admit when they got him 6th I went right to Brady in my head. I am hoping lightning can strike twice, although I know it most likely is a pipe dream.

So what's the percentage chance You find a great Qb in the 1st round??? One study shows the chance of a 1st round Qb becoming a Franchise QB is a little over 20%, and only an 9% chance that a 1st round Qb pick will be a starter in a SB. That's not much better is it???

i didnt say great, i said viable or solid starter, like Tua, or Derek carr. I would say 25 to 30 percent from the first round without doing the calcs. 6th rounder or further back is of course much lower, 10 percent tops

I hear You ,but if You spend a 1st round, and especially if You move up to get them, I would like great. You can get guys like Tua, and Carr in the later rounds.
That's why I would like to see them not just draft a Qb in the 1st ,just to do it.

Last year it looks like most if not all the guys were solid picks at QB, jury still out, but the teams seem committed. Then again sometimes the guys who show good stuff disappear just as quickly. There are years where no QB drafted in the 1st goes anywhere, so the per centage is really hard to put an actual reliance on, if the team builds the O and has a good system, a guy like Howard may actually develop into a decent to very good QB, as you said even getting 3 years as a good back up is outstanding value for where he was drafted. If he cannot grasp the pro game I would hardly call him a bust, it was a low pick and should be seen as just that, anything positive you get from 6th round is a win.

Players play, fans talk stats. I'll let the football speak for itself. Either Howard develops into an NFL caliber QB or he won't based on what he does. The round in which he was selected will have NOTHING to say about it. The percentages of who does what since the beginning of the football world will have NOTHING to say about it. Either HE will play to that level or HE won't. Undrafted players become team starters, team captains, face of the franchise, even make the HoF. Undrafted means was not even selected in the draft. Yet turned into great football players.

To say that someone you have never met has no chance is ignorance plus hubris.

Ahhhh, it’s all a crap shoot really. I myself have Years of extensive on the couch draft experience and I say I like this Howard kid. So, there you go. Book it!

As for the original thread with GP now gone we now need a WR2 yet again. One foot forward, two steps back. I yie yie yie…

Hope he does well , he is a Steeler. AS for the importance of what rd a q.b. is picked you have to factor in the quality of coaching available to help him develop . 1st round undrafted does not matter imho as much as receivers ,RBs ,line the supporting cast . Some of us geezers may remember the best Manning q.b. Archie with the Saints, no help and a wasted talent do to that fact,

Also, let's not forget, what is the pipe made out of. There are certain materials you do not want to use as a pipe. LoL
