I don't see Matthews demanding to go straight to the starting job, as he is currently sitting at home. And for money this late in the game you will only be contracting for future games, not having to come up with a 16 games season paycheck. I don't think he is going to get paid no where near what you are thinking.

Bring him in let him pass the physical and then sign him to the practice squad. If he passes his physical with flying colors you may move him up to the Active roster immediately, and keep him inactive on game day for the first couple of games. If he can show flashes of what he did in Greenbay in a limited roll he may be able to keep the double team off Watt on those 3rd and long plays.

If we are playing the sign them game, what about Jachai Polite. Tons of potential coming out of college but has not lived up to the hype

I never said what I think he will be paid, I have no idea what his salary expectations might be, and I understand that he would not be receiving a full years salary joining at this stage of the season.

My point is that there is zero reason for somebody like Matthews to get off his couch to join the Steelers practice squad like some camp cut. Why on earth would he agree to that? With somebody like that you bring him in and if he is in shape and ready to contribute you sign him to the active roster imo. I’d agree that his role would probably be situational.

It will probably come to nothing anyway because if the Steelers were going to bring somebody in we’d have heard something by now I think.

Why do you think Matthews is washed up?

He played in 13 games last year and had 8 sacks; 8 sacks is what Bud Dupree is sitting on for this year

I still do not know why he didn't sign with Denver when Von Miller went down. Denver was sitting on 25 million in cap space, so I don't think it was money.

Matthews said on Twitter that they couldn’t reach a deal, presumably that means he was looking for too much. Who knows. I don’t think it’ll be happening anyway unless somebody else goes down. I think they will roll with Highsmith, Elliot and Ola for better or worse

Or that his side was looking at getting the full amount of the contract even if cut or injured. That seems to be the new "in" thing . So maybe Denver was reluctant to throw good money after bad.

Why isn't he on a roster then? He's 35 years old
