Not saying I want this, but Russel Wilson will end up on the Steelers. I can see it because of the all the veterans, he may be the cheapest of them all and we are in a cap crunch. He's getting paid a ton of money by Denver next couple of seasons. He won't need much (maybe he'll ask for it), so I could see him being the "affordable under the cap" solution. I don't know why he fell off so badly the past couple of years. Did he get an arm/upper body injury that changed him? Did he get a concussion that scares him? Did he just lose confidence or passion? I don't know.

Pickett needs someone around to push him or just blow by him. We can't go into the season with Pickett and mediocre backup. I don't think Mason (he should go elsewhere in my opinion) or Pickett is the answer. I'd lean towards mason, but neither excites me at all. Mason had the benefit of playing after the Canada Clown show, Pickett did not. If last year were reversed, I'd be guessing everyong would want Pickett to start and Rudolph to be jettisoned. I think either will fair better under the new OC, but not fair good enough to be an AFC playoff contender that scares anyone.

If they do sign a mediocre vet or Rudolph, then they HAVE to draft a QB, maybe not top 2 rounds, but someone they like that isn't getting first round buzz that falls to round 4 or 5. They need to get an RT, bench or cut Dan Moore, an OC and get rid of Cole. Try to get ONE promising DL, either FA or draft, but this is the year to get the OL fixed once and for all.

Wilson and RT are both 35 I think. They're backup's or insurance policies if Kenny stinks again. both would be 10x better than Mitch and 5x better than KP. You cannot hire either of those two and say you need to beat out Kenny Pickens or be a back up. UNLESS you truly mean they actually can win the starting job. If we start Kenny over one of those guys they will quit on the team unless they have coaching aspirations or just wanted to collect a small paycheck for a year or two. I also think there's no chance we are giving Kenny any real competition. If we do, that will be a huge surprise to me. Wilson or RT would easily beat out Kenny in a true competition. SO IMO if you sign either of those guys you are saying we are done with Kenny.

I could see us drafting a 2nd or 3rd round QB to compete with Kenny. The veteran we sign will be someone who is totally OK with being a back up. Maybe I'm wrong about Wilson and RT but I think if they continue to play they will want a real shot at starting.

I'm hearing the Steelers might make a big trade to grab a top QB this year.

Center, cornerback, offensive tackle, and defensive line are all higher priorities than quarterback in the draft. They aren't getting one of the quarterbacks who belongs in the first round. Nix could be there in the first, but that would make no sense to me. He belongs in the second round at best. McCarthy should probably be a third-round pick, but some team will overdraft him.

Wilson is in steep decline, but I'm not sure he's going to be cheap. I also don't see him signing with any team that doesn't commit to him as the starter. I'm not sure the Steelers want do do that.

I would much rather see them spend their free agent money on help at cornerback, inside linebacker, or the offensive line. Hell, make a big splash for once and sign Queen away from the Ravens. Get Boyd to play the slot on offense and maybe a mid-level cornerback, then spend another draft focusing on the lines. Most of all, get a damn center!

Mason is OUR mistake. Except he hadn't shown he was good enough for us to make him a mistake until now. Lots of "other people's mistakes" thriving in the league. I wouldn't let that shy me away from taking a shot on someone.

Queen would be a beautiful acquisition. I'd rather draft a center than sign one and sign a tackle than draft one. We can figure out either a draft or sign in the secondary.

If we don't commit to the QB position, we HAVE to shore up the OL. As it stands, our offense will go through the running game since Pickett is a passenger at best and a boat anchor in most situations. Get the C we need, find a capable RT and see how far it can take us. I'd prefer we stay with Mason if we go this route instead of Tannehill, but it really doesn't matter. The games will be won with a strong running game and good defense. Lots of 19-13 games again, but we can at least ride that to 10-11 wins. Then when we feel like the rest of our team is built out, we can go for the QB.

Mason is 8-4-1 in his career as a starter. We haven't even run him two full seasons of games. So its not like we ran him two complete seasons and said ok the guy sucks. He has a winning record. What other QB mistake is thriving someplace else beside maybe Mayfield and I don't even consider that a mistake as Cleveland cut him and I think that was a mistake?

If the team is going to give up on Pickett this quickly, why would they want to draft a quarterback with a similar developmental path?

I don't disagree with any of your post. I just feel like IF they get an FA QB, it will be Wilson. I'd rather they take a swing at a mid round QB and use the top 3 picks to beef up OL, DL and either CB/LB/SS

He has shown You. I seen enough through the games He's played that He was the best right now on the team. Problem is no matter what He did people had problems with it. In preseason....He looked the best for two straight year, and we heard ...yeah , but he's playing against the 3rd string , but nobody said....yeah but He's playing with the 3rd string. When He played against the Lion in tge pouring rain, against the Browns without practice, and then the games last year, but no matter what he's done....some fans have come up with excuses for why He has played well because they already had their mind set. I don't get it. I thought Trubisky was the worst pickup imaginable, but if He had come in , and done what Mason did....I would have said... dang....I guess I was wrong, and He is pretty good, but that didn't happen....I don't know why people have a problem with doing the same for Mason

No, he did not look the best in preseason the last two years. I've presented the numbers on this many times. Statistically, he was the worst of the three quarterbacks in the 2022 preseason even though he mostly played against third and fourth-stringers. He certainly wasn't better than Pickett in the 2023 preseason, either. You and others keep pushing this false narrative about the last two preseasons and it is really old.

We’re not going to get a top tier free agent QB as he will be walking into a QB controversy. We either commit to Pickett or make it clear that we are walking away from Pickett.

Well if we get a top tier free agent QB there isn't much of a controversy, Kenny sits. So yeah, we either go get a Cousins, Fields, or Mayfield and walk away from Kenny as the future.... Or we stick with Kenny and hope he plays well enough to fend off a Mason Rudolph, Ryan Tannehill, Gardner Minshew.

Walking away from Pickett without letting him tryout for the new OC would be foolish

Committing to Pickett based on his poor progress would be even more foolish

Therefore they will bring in legitimate competition like they said they would
