Anybody have any long shot favorites? I'm going to go with Mike Golic Jr to make the team. We seem rather thin at back up Tackle spots so that's why I went with him. Thoughts??

I'm hoping that Embernate and Long show enough to jettison the likes of Malecki,Chaedle, and Whimper.

I think Cheadle has the edge over Ebernasty, but he's my sleeper favorite, too. I can also see Fangupo coming in and mauling at camp, and taking the #2 spot behind Big Mac.

I agree but would add malecki. he's the 3rd center. unless, a guy I even had us drafting late joe madsen shows something. he's never talked about.

Farrell is another guy that could make some noise at tackle. you can't have enough prospects that can play both tackle spots in this new scheme.

Cheadle is also interesting. he wasen't bad at cal. as a RG.

hubbard is trying to be made into a G, but like beachum, he played LT in college and is mobile.

one things for sure they will battle it out. if there is a year to keep some extra young talent on the o-line it would be this year. a year in the system under their belts for next year will go along way. they are all young so keeping them learning together is huge for the next couple of years. I hope they keep 9 and 3 on the squad.

as for whimper, I need to see what he's got. if he's RT only material, then we keep long as the swing tackle. we know they like vets, but he's just learning this scheme and a lot of these younger guys know it better.

I like Omar Hunter-D.T. 6 foot 318 lbs. out of Florida. I think McLendon will be a star, but the rest of the D-Line vets need to step it up big time. :yeehaw:

I would like to see that Dunn kid but since we never seem to put much emphasis on special teams I don't think they would have a return specialist on the roster if that's all he could do. But in a perfect world that's who I would like to see make it because that kid can fly.

There's a lot of guys I'm rooting for (who doesn't pull for an underdog), but I would like to see Dunn succeeded as well. Would love to have an electric return man on the roster. Hopefully he can show something on offense too to help him make the team.

I'd like to see both Justin Brown and Dunn make the final 53, I don't think either will survive being put on the practice squad.

I'd also be real happy to see David Johnson gone for good.

    Wes Ours!
If he'd been around, we'd have to put rings on our toes!

    Oh, and block-style numbers, please.

I think Dunn with his other "gear" makes the team but as the last guy on the roster...

My surprise cuts are two. Dwyer and Ta'Amu. Not that I don't like those guys but think they are on the outside looking in when the final numbers come in. Hopefully they prove me wrong and have great camps!

I think Justin Brown is the long shot, I'm hoping he does, not sure if he will last on the PS. I think Embernasty and Dunn both make it. They like Embernate a lot, were on the phone with him early before the draft ended, they want him, and as for Dunn, Tomlin has a soft spot for the return specialists, even if it's just kickoffs, its not like every kick sails out of the endzone, he can give us significant field position every time he touches it. Coach is going to have some tough decisions to make.

    Im going with Dunn....

Dunn, LSH return kicks and punts....depth at WR and RB

I think Dunn makes it as a return specialist and the 6th WR....he, DVD, and Brown as gunners on kicks...thats a lot of speed on the field.

as a WR all I want him to run is a 9, and a post, a corner, and a curl.....you keep sending him to the house...he will take a corner...and most likely a safety with him...even if he can't catch...they have to cover him.

the only trouble is we only dress 45 on game day. 42 position players. 21 offense,21 defense. 11 starters and 10 backups. dunn can't be the 6th wr if that's the case. he may get 1 KO ret. a game if we are lucky.

he will have to show he can return punts or LSH will have to show he can. as of now, j.brown, gilreath and hawthorne are the only backups that have been punt returners.

Hawthorne is a rather interesting case ... I thought I read somewhere that he's also a halfway decent punter? If that's true, along with his other skills, he would seem to be a good prospect for the game day 45 ... a backup punter, return man, and db all rolled into one.

Steelers ranked 12th in kickoff returns last year, 46 returns for 1103 yards. Rainey returned 39 of them, thats a significant amount of touches that Dunn could greatly alter the outcome of games. I think it would be worth it to have him just for kickoff returns but I believe they would find additional uses for him as well.

Embernasty and Golic. People forget that Golic had to move around a bit for ND as well. He's got the right attitude and you know his dad is in his ear about the tricks DL use on gameday.

OK... I know this is a waaayyy longshot for the 53 man... but we rolled the dice on picking him, and haven` seen his name yet...
Landry Jones... Any chance, he comes in and shows em enough to regret signing Gradkowski???
I highly doubt it, given our penchant for loving veterans, but we COULD carry 3 qb`s(doubt it)..
Didn`t we usually stash our 3d string qb on the practice squad?
I know they didn`t usually get a "hat" on game day...
Brian St. Pierre, held a clipboard for a while...
    Hey, you said "longshot"...
If the kid proves them right on taking a chance on him, he`s gotta do it by being better than Grad friekin Kowski, Right?!?!...
Also, I don` know all the obscure linemen, like Mac does.(Thanks for shining the light there, BTW!)..
Those are all probably more realistic chances, but, I thought it was interesting that Jones wasn`t mentioned...
After all the debate around draft day... I may have mis-understood the intent of the thread..
Never been accused of being the sharpest knife in the drawer, just most likely to bludgeon people with whatever blount object is at hand... LOL...
    GO STEELERS!!!:herewego:

Landry will definitely be on the roster, why wouldn't he be? They carried Batch and Lefty last year, I thought 3 QB's was standard.

    That`s where I was confused...
We Usually had Ben as our starter, and either Batch, or Leftwich, as his backup(depending on who wasn`t injured that week)...And the other guy, wasn`t listed on the 53 roster, right?..
He didn`t get "a hat": on gameday...not sure if he was on the practice squad, or not,...
I assumed we "walked into stadiums on Sunday":, with 2 qb`s... Ben(If healthy... ish)...and his backup... Usually Batch,
Maybe Byron, if Batch couldn`t go...
No matter what... I didn`t think we ever walked into a game on Sunday, with 3 qb`s on our roster...
(And don`t get cute with me about Heath, or Hines, or former High School qb`s... I`m not talking about emergencey "position flexibility", here...)...
I`m seriously wondering/trying to figure this out...
Ben plays pretty much every time he`s not suspended by the leauge, or turned into a zombie...
But when he doesn`t... He`s had Batch to back him up, or Byron... but, I don`t think, BOTH, EVER, if Ben was scheduled to start...
Unless I`m wrong(ALWAYS PROBABLE)... We didn`t usually carry TWO quarterbacks, behind our STARTING qb...into a game,
Yet, we always had THree QB`s, on our roster...
    ??
I don` think we had to stash one of em on the practice squad...
    What am I missin?
Gotta do with the "gameday" roster, versus the "53 man" roster....how many are you allowed to dress on gameday?
    45?
and keep how many?? on the "practice squad" ???
Ouch... I just wanna see us play the game, and kick our opponents collective asses!!!!
    Tooo much thinkin for me!:steelflag:

Because they had Leftwich and Batch they had one active on gameday. When numbers became a problem they usually cut one and signed him back on Tuesday as they knew no one would rush in to make an offer on them.

Dunn and Golic. Would love to see both EARN a spot on the roster. Oh and this little known guy Iowasteeljim. This guy is pretty versatile and has a great heart. The rest of him isn't so great but his heart is ticking away. You should see his official time going from the couch to the fridge...no one can grab a beer quicker. His vertical when he leaps from the floor to the couch is unbelieveable. Great hands, too! He can switch channels on a remote like no one's business. Ok, got to go and keep the phone lines open. I know MT will be calling any minute!

There seems to be a lotta folks in here that were pulling for us to draft Arthur Brown ... Hell, just think if we would have picked him, that coulda possibly made like what, 4 "Brown's" on our roster?

I gotta wonder what the current answer is to the NFL Trivia question of ...
What NFL team/year had the highest number of players with the same last name? :hmmm:

It still looks like we may have a decent shot for taking the "pairs competition" (at least for this year) with the ... "Brown's, Williams's, and Jones's". LOL :lolol:

sometimes teams kicked short knowing rainey had known fumbling problems. with a good return man they kick it out of the EZ more often then not.
