I haven't seen any chatter about Derek doing visits either so it's entirely possible especially since his family settled into the Pittsburgh area. Familiar with the system and a phone call away. I've been waiting for someone to suggest them getting the Edmunds brother back since he was like a one hit wonder ear worm, just can't get it out of your head

Man, I was looking forward to seeing the mullet coming out of the guardian helmet during backs on backers

Why not? He is a quality special teamer who can block. He's not a bad runner in short yardage. Nobody is saying they should overpay him again, but if they can get him to come back cheap, why not?

The bottom line is always, can a player help the team? If they believe signing Watt makes the roster stronger, why the hell not? Special teams is a real thing. I close games, field position alone can decide those games.

Sign him back at a reasonable number if he is interested in playing and let's roll.

We're done with any real moves this yr.....
Anyone we bring in now will be nothing more than cannon fodder....
The next splash moves will not take place until the 2024 draft

Why would they say no to someone that can help the team?

Can Heyward do it?? Would that be a way to get Him on the field more???

No idea. We haven’t seen him do it. No pads in practice until tomorrow so not much use for a fb thus far.

I'm sure a lot of teams don't have a FB in their roster...They use a TE when needed and Connor Heyward could have that role

That I don’t know. I know he started out as a rb for the Spartans and then was switched to te due to the arrival of another rb. For what it’s worth he actually took snaps as a rb yesterday in practice

We went through this year's ago with David Johnson who was at best an average TE but a sucky Hback/lead blocker because he couldn't identify the block he need to make. If he lined up a TE he knew who to block but when in the backfield he couldn't figure out who he should take. I always use the example of a game against Carolina. He lined up on the right side at TE, Heath was lined up on the left with a single back behind Ben. Johnson motions into the backfield at FB offset to the left, ball is snapped hand off to the back, hole opens up between LT and LG Johnson hits the hole and runs into Heath who was dragging along the back of the Dline moving left to right and sealing off the inside linebacker. Johnson is meant to seal the outside backer letting the back get in the second level versus a safety which is a favorable match-up to get past him or run him over. However Johnson runs into Heath and decides to help him seal the inside spot, the outside linebacker stops the play for minimal gain. Johnson blew up the play because lead blocker was not a tool he had in his tool box.

So yes Heyward can play TE, split end, Hback and maybe some FB and be acceptable at it but I'd rather have him as that receiving threat or side car in a two back look rather than being a road grader for Warren and Harris where maybe he's good maybe he's not. Leading blocking is a skill that needs work.

Yes, Heyward played some fullback in college, but everything I've read and heard suggests that he isn't a great blocker.

If I had to guess, they are going to sign me to an insane contract to be Tomlin's assistant head coach - main responsibility is to tell him when and when not to use that red flag. Also, when to use timeouts. And when to run the ball. And when to pass. When to blitz. I'll monitor the GDTs and never be wrong.
