Yes. I weighed 307 pounds and am 5’8”. My cholesterol was through the roof, I was taking 100 units of insulin twice a day, and it still wasn’t enough. And I had a young son who I was not going to see grow up. Had gastric bypass and changed my diet. i now weigh 156 and am no longer diabetic. Went from a 46” waist to a 31” waist. You could do it without being vegetarian but I got so I no longer craved meat. It is healthier to be vegetarian because they pump meat full of female hormones to make it more tender. Now, I like breasts but have no desire to grow my own.
I don’t smoke or drink. I was celibate but it was the worst 45 minutes of my life so I gave that one up. Sorry if I used that joke before.

Went to my 50th hs reunion recently. Man some of them look bad! White haired feeble guys with beer bellies.

Whatever works for you, it's your life, and you should be able to live it how you choose, and I'm happy that makes you happy, and healthy. I was just curious. I'm a meat eater, but I eat twice the vegetables as I do meat, but I have kept in pretty good shape for rounding the bend towards 60, but I have exercised most of my life.
Anyways, I was just curious. Take Care

I am not judgemental about carnivores.
I do eat dairy products and egg whites, as protein intake is a challenge when you don’t eat meat. So some would say I am not a “pure“ vegetarian.
I am still on a statin for my cholesterol, have never got it as low as I would like. My father had the same problem for a long time . A heart attack took him. Last year, at 93!

that is truly impressive. Kudos to you. I know sarcasm is a second language with me, but I mean that in all sincerity. Well done. I agree with you to an extent about the hormones etc in our food. However, I would disagree with you on a couple things. The big one to me is the processed/fake meat replacements. I’ve never eaten one and I never will. It’s just more of the same processed crap. Also, anyone that actually wants to and puts in the work can get 100% of their animal proteins without buying it from a store. Then you have no hormones at all and it’s food that is truly organic etc. In addition to that the additives in our food play a role, but they’re by no means the sole issue. People eat way way too much. They say the average adult male should consume 2,000 calories a day. A lot of Americans eat that in one meal. I worked in an orphanage in Central America for a while. Ate all of my meals there and their portions.the first few days I thought holy crap I’m going to starve. However, then it dawned on me. I’m not weak, tired, or hungry. I just eat way too much food back home.
People can make significant changes to their bodies and health just by eliminating the processed crap and eating normal portions. That doesn’t require making drastic changes either. Walk into the grocery store and only shop fruits/vegetables and meat and seafood you will notice a difference in how you feel, look, and overall health.

I was visiting my sister and her family. She asked my youngest nephew what he wanted to eat for dinner. His response was kidney beans. Sure enough he sat there at dinner eating a plate of plain kidney beans. All I could think was this boy was adopted because there’s no way the two of us are related.

I was invited to a friend’s daughter’s wedding and the daughter is vegan

I asked if this was a BYOR affair (bring your own ribeye)

My friend assured me there would be meat

My grandfather owned the local butcher shop when I was a kid and that was the foundation of my food choices

I would just like to point out this is made entirely from plant based sources

And this can be made out of apples and cabbages

93 is not bad, but no age is good to lose family. I'm sorry for Your loss.

    LOL!
Funny thing, years ago I tried the Adkins diet or whatever it was. I ate up to a half pound of bacon at a time. And my cholesterol went DOWN! I have no idea why, not did my doctor.

Faithful roommate and I lived in Mexico for a while. They have a delicious bean paste there. I am prohibited from eating it, or beans in any form, for air quality reasons.

I also lost my father at 93

Not to make light but if I can go at 93 from a heart attack that’s the way to go

I hope this came out right
