Bradshaw said in his book that he, "didn't know a zone defense from a zip code" his rookie season. One of those cases where a kid comes from a very simple college offense and gets thrown to the wolves.

By today's standards, Namath would never be in the HoF. But I still kind of wish they judged them like they did. It's not all about the stats, or where you are in the all-time lists - it's about what you brought on to the field, and what you left there.

Now, back to the question. Would the 70s team have survived with the salary cap? It may have been possible, but only given every other team would also have been under the salary cap, and the top players would likely want to stay for the SBs rather than the dollars (which, in the 70s, wouldn't have been that high). I think the Cowboys of the 70s would have had a harder time.

I agree that Jack wasn't about the flash and pizazz. Rod Woodson said that when he scored a td once and sorta showboated about it that Joe Greene was a defensive coach at the time and REALLY let him have it and said "we don't do that here" and Rod said "yes sir!" LOL. I'm like you and think they played to win more than to get paid but I've wondered a lot if that's not just something that we as fans tell ourselves to build this image of "loyalty"? I mean if someone had said to Jack Ham "hey we'll make you a $60million man if you come here" and then Chief says "I'll give you $20million and Lambert $40million" would he then have stayed? I'm glad there was a dynasty era in football because it really built a lot of franchises in to the brands they are today. I've always thought it would be lame to be a modern day Pats fan because Bill changes that roster on such a whim that it would be hard to get attached to guys and follow their progress. That's actually one of the things I like about our franchise is we aren't such a revolving door ya know? Loyal to a fault? Maybe. But not that much.
