Dwyer is the man. Give Mendy the clipboard.

I just think a lot of folks are basing this on one game, where the o-line stepped up and played well. Previously, all of our RBs had issues getting yardage (except perhaps Mendenhall for a brief while).

Of course, if Dwyer is "reading" the line better, has more of an understanding with his blockers etc., then in the long term he may do better. But I think this is tapping into some people's inherent dislike of Mendenhall rather than actual performances.

Both Mendenhall & Dwyer are probably in the top 5 of the 5 RBs I enjoyed watching the most in college football. Both are really good RBs. Unfortunately, Mendenhall trumps Dwyer as far as physical attributes go. He is bigger (arguably), quicker, and faster.

What Dwyer has going for him is exceptional visit. He rarely misses the whole if it is there. Once this guys conditioning gets to where it needs to be, he could be a perennial 1000 yard back.

If Mendenhall is healthy to go to, I believe Coach T will put him back in as the starter. Tomlin loves experience. After this season, it could BE Dwyer's turn, as I really don't anticipate the Steelers bringing Mendenhall back.

I think they might make a go of bringing him back. Despite the bewildering "dancing" perception around here, Mendenhall as performed well when healthy. It's his health that will determine the weight of his contract. If Dwyer has a standout year then the Steelers may be more comfortable making Mendy a lower offer and taking their chances. Otherwise, his contract will stand or fall on whether the team is happy he can stay on the field. And I think if you look at his injuries - Lewis breaking your face would put anybody out; he had a fairly quick recovery time from his injury last year (when a lot of us were thinking he would miss the season); let's see with this current one - he's fairly more resilient than many give him credit for.

It is more than just one game. Dwyer has taken advantage of his opportunities and made the most of his carries in every game he has played and he proved today that the Bungles game wasn't a fluke. The OL has looked really good the past 2 games and the O play calling has been the best we have seen in several years. So the credit goes to a lot of folks. But Dwyer is the one churning up the yards and he deserves credit and has earned more touches. Maybe Mendenhall could have performed well in these 2 games as well. But he wasn't on the field. We need to stick with Dwyer.

Agree with everything here except the last sentence.

What I was saying earlier was, let's not get too carried away because we played well in one game, where Dwyer performed well. Let's see if he can continues to do so. And today, he really, really did. Absolutely awesome play.

Does that mean we kick out Mendenhall? Not at all, because of none of that actually takes away from what Mendy offers. So... play them both! For as long as we can afford them both, at least. I am genuinely excited about the prospect of having them both out on the field in rotation.

It's all the better because before the season started I'm not sure many really expected Dwyer to perform in quite the way he has done last two games. And I also think (side point) that Haley is doing well at playing the long-wait game with his playcalling. Once defenses get wise to one trick, he puts in another.

Yes, play them both. I think we all* can agree that Dwyer has more to offer than Redman and has surpassed him on the depth chart. Or at least he should have surpassed him by now. He's good at breaking tackles and is more explosive. He's still not the short yardage back Redman is (who is?), but there's room for a specialist. Dwyer did have a couple duds earlier this year, so I wouldn't say he's looked great every chance he's had, but I see what you mean. If you include preseason games against backups, his percentage of good games skyrockets. And he's had two good ones in a row now. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but he hasn't proven himself better than Mendenhall, considering we can all agree that the OL has been playing great the last two games and were a major factor in his yardage, creating wide open holes for nice long runs. When the OL wasn't blocking well, Dwyer didn't produce at all. It's hard to say that about Mendenhall, who a lot of people accuse of underproducing, but still gave us a lot more than Dwyer did when he had a bad line. In fact, I don't really remember the OL playing that great in Mendy's lone game this year. Add that to what he's done in years past. He's done nothing to deserve getting benched. He's performed for us every time we've asked him to. There's no reason not to give them both significant touches when he returns.

we will know a little more next week. i don't think wash was that strong of a defense, nor was cinci. the g-men front should be a little better barometer of where this team is in terms of good enough. we need all hands on deck. redman had a good game a couple of games ago too. they all have a little different style but it works. we are also finding out they are all good at catching the ball and making things happen with it. i don't mean just mendy, red and dwyer. they all can play some football, including our FB. nice problem to have.

3 of them will be up for contracts though after this year. mendy is still the lead dog when healthy.

The Skins are actually ranked really high as a run D. They are like 30th in pass d though.

What does Dwyer have to do to convince some of you that he is ready for prime time? It seems with every success he has some on this MB want to minimize that for some reason. This guy has gotten it done EVERY time he's gotten an opportunity. He has had three 100 yard games and has only started two games in his NFL career. He averages between 5.5 and 6 YPC IN HIS CAREER. He averaged over 6 YPC in college. Dwyer is the real deal and was a steal in the 6th round. I don't think he has to PROVE anything else. Just hand him the rock and let him do his thing.
