There will be HC roles available in Washington, New England, Carolina, LA and others.

I expect he will be looking at interviews for HC roles in the first instance and may well get one so I doubt he will be available.

If he is available they should definitely interview him, he has a lot of experience and should be a safe hire.

I always wondered if Bienemy’s success was more a product of being with Mahomes and Reid. However, the personnel situation in Washington is not good. I’ve watched chunks of a few of their games and it’s looked like Howell and McLaurin vs. the world on the field. It’s hard to get a reading on whether Bienemy has brought anything to the table or not. I’d be pretty cautious going down that path.

I don't know if Bienemy would be good with us or not, but we need to do an interview with him at least, that's the minimum I'm asking for

Why? What’s he done in Washington that’s so great? I think Andy Reid pretty much called the plays in KC. Looks like Washington is middle of the pack on offense. I’m not much of a Bienemy fan.

I keep pointing this out in defferent threads that KC's offense without Bienemy this year is down about 10 points per game than all the years he was there as O.C.

I think the Steelers may jump to the head of the list if Tomlin does decide to make next year his last year as Head coach before moving back into the Steelers front office.

I know eeryone is talking about how hard it would be to bring in an O.C. if Tomlin sticks around for his final "Lame Duck" year, but how about bringing in an OC, that wants to take over for Tomlin after next year?

I think there’s talent here. He probably could make this offense competitive. Or at least professional.

Why would he come here to work for a lame duck coach and end up looking for a job next January? It's not like 25 years ago when he could've been a HC in waiting.

No. But whoever it is better have their sh?t wired because history says he'll be around for a couple of decades. No more players coaches. JMO>

I think that our OC job will be very much coveted by someone who wants to be a HC. Tomlin going into his last season under contract on the verge of losing the team/retiring/etc... Someone could come in, do a great job, and get a fast track to being the next HC.

Yeah, its weird. The WR is a good bit worse than last year for them with Hardman on IR, but IDK what made them go from 29ppg to 22ppg aside from losing Bienemy and bringing Nagy in? You can point to Tyreek Hill being gone as part of the issue (and you'd be right in a sense), but they still scored 1 PPG more the year after Hill left as they did in Hill's final year. Depends on the route we want to go I guess. I think he'd be a good fit to help our passing offense, while still being league average in rushing per game. I think his offense would be perfect for Jaylen Warren too, so I find that to be a plus.

I agree with you, the "lame duck" situation could benefit us. It makes it a pretty desirable spot for an OC that wants to be a HC eventually.

LOL..Yeah, because we know the Steelers hate to promote from within.

The idea that the O.C. could become the next Steeler Head Coach, seem very like the Steelers Standard to me.

It pretty much goes against their own Rooney Rule. Not to mention that plan makes 2024 a complete waste. If Bienemy is the long-term option at HC, then you might as well hire him as HC this January. Then there's also that awkward scenario that you make that offer to Bienemy now as 'HC in Waiting,' only for the Steelers to have a successful season and the Steelers and Tomlin decide to sign a long-term deal. I think you might as well either commit to Tomlin long term the first week of the off-season or move on from Tomlin.

The worst possible idea for the Steelers is that Tomlin is in a lame duck coach in 2024, since the chances that the quality assistants will come will be more lower...I don't think Art will want that too(same for Tomlin)... It's either going to be Tomlin is gone or he's going to get a 1-2 year extension.

Completely wrong. But that's not bad thing.

They pulled Sam, who was the leader in passing yards most of the season. He was struggling.
Sam was a guy not rated highly, but has performed outstanding and a lot of it is due to Eric.
Washington has a problem not unlike ours.
Ron Rivera was a good guy to establish some sense of respect to a disgraceful franchise, but he is NOT a coach that will transform them into Super Bowl winners.
Washington's Front Office is horrible in the draft. Really only picking McLaurin and Howell on offense, and Payne and Allen on Defense.
    Other than that, they've failed.
It was the smart thing to do for Sam and he will be back.

Eric Bieniemy is in a difficult position. They've already announced that Rivera is gone.
Typically, that means a complete coaching staff rebuild.
Most in the know in Washington, want to go a different way than appointing Eric Bieniemy as the head Coach.
I'm sort of in that boat as well.
I kind of view Eric Bieniemy as I did Norv Turner. Turner was an excellent Offensive Coordinator but a terrible, no make that God awful Head Coach.

As far as coming to Pittsburgh, Eric Bieniemy would be a plus.
But there is one issue, the run game.
Eric Bieniemy's offense is not predicated on the run, he passes to run.
He is a strict coach, and you will run to every drill and there will not be half stepping. So, I don't know how he blends with Tomlin should they retain him.

    Then there's my biggest fear.
Pittsburgh's hiring practices verge on reverse discrimination. They will hire a lesser qualified Head Coach just because of race.
So, Eric Bieniemy could be a Head Coach candidate.
On one hand, I hope Washington does name Eric Bieniemy as Head Coach to save us from disaster.
On the other, I'd like Eric Bieniemy as an OC... (I do like other options as well)

I am lost. Why would the Rooney Rule work against Eric Bieniemy?

If Bieniemy decided to come in and be OC for 2024, and then become head coach in 2025, how would this go against the Rooney Rule?

They'd still have to interview an outside minority candidate in a faux interview in order to promote him from OC to HC.
