We are 1 of the 3 teams that qualify based on the criteria. The others are Arizona and Denver. While Denver does have a great following, it's not a national following like we have. The NFL and HBO are drooling at the thought of us being on hard knocks and there's nothing the Steelers can do to stop it.

    It's coming.

Why? HBO wants it and it's a done deal? I ask in seriousness. Why couldn't the Rooney's just say no?

I don't want the distraction, but I get why the NFL would want to do it.
I swear I read somewhere that a team can refuse to be on it but they'll lose a home game to be played overseas. But, I might just be making that up.

    Its mandatory unless a team:

    A. Has already been on Hard Knocks within the. past 10 years.

    B. Has earned a playoff spot within the past 2
    Seasons.

    C. The team has a new 1st year head coach.

Mr Rooney, please take note of option C!

I would take the overseas game. They usually come right before the bye week...we usually suck after the bye week, better to suck for one week than to let cameras back in the locker room and create some prima donnas that we spent the last few season trying to extract.

They could but after awhile it looks bad. Like if you want to be part of this league abide by these terms.

We finally got rid of the drama. This would hurt.

If it would give this organization the kick in the ass it needs, I'm all for it. Which is why Rooney will refuse. No peeking behind the curtain.

Out of the 3 teams mentioned HBO would have more a interist in Arizona 2ND year QB,, 2nd year coach and Fitz playing his 20th year or what ever it is now ...

The Steelers aren't that interesting with all the drama gone with AB, and to a lesser extent Bell.

Looks like this could happen. Just what we need more distractions.

While I do enjoy watching HK I'd hate for the Steelers to be on it.

Correct.. The Steelers can't say no.. but I'd bet 10 bucks that St. Vincent administrators could tell the NFL to pound salt... it's a private campus not controlled by the Steelers or the NFL...

My initial inclination to this was heck no, this isn't the way the Steelers do things.

But then I took a step back and saw it from a different angle. This is potentially the proper fuel the FMTI pitchfork-bearing and MT loyalist/apologist crowds need to back up their respective arguments. It's going to be one or the other - no way it can be both. Is he the stoic leader, refraining from showing any emotion in public and taking care of business behind closed doors? Or if that door is opened, do we see him at his desk prepping for his next presser with the Big Book of Clever Cliches?

I'm torn, because historically this team does not do well with distractions.

Doubt it's that simple. The official answer is that the Steelers can't say no. Unofficially I'm sure they have input if they push back hard enough, but at the end of the day, the NFL will do what the NFL wants. They've shown that over the years, even going as far as basically threatening to take the Cowboys away from Jerry Jones if he didn't shutup about the Goodell contract

If the NFL really wants the Steelers in hard knocks, it's going to happen.

There’d be strong viewer interest in the Steelers on Hard Knocks. Successful and nationally popular team, uncertainty about the HoF quarterback, coming off consecutive no-playoffs seasons, looking to get back on track...

Does St Vincent keep ESPN out? NFL Network? Fox Sports? KDKA? TAE or PXI? Can't see how they could keep HBO out if they grant access to everyone else. Especially, if the NFL oks them.

    Despite agreeing with you...

Perhaps, for some players (and even coaches?), the scrutiny might motivate them to report to camp in better shape, study the playbook and/or absorb coaching more, try harder... Knowing all those cameras are on them and it’ll be nationally televised.

They’ll have to do it but they don’t have to be all that Cooperative. Make it boring and bland. They can’t make them be candid and say a lot. In other words, make it miserable for the filming crew.
