Well I'm excited about it. Let's hope with Howard, and now Allar they can make one of them great.

Let's not be a party pooper. We should, like every team be excited about what we have added, and the possibilities of what they bring. I hope they all become HOF players here, and I'm excited

I am not as high on Allar as some, but for different reasons. He’s big and has a big arm, but I’m not so sure his ceiling is as high as some thing just because of his arm. I think he’s more of a Flacco type if the stars align… which is still quite good, but some people think he has Josh Allen upside and I don’t see it at all. I didn’t like him because he doesn’t do the “in phase” stuff well, and because he has a tendency to shrink in big games. You can teach a kid to run the offense in phase, but you can’t teach clutch.

As for whether or not I think he’s can? I don’t know. I hope he does (or Howard, don’t care which), but I think he’s a pretty big long shot. He’s going to come to Pittsburgh a good bit behind Howard in readiness, but only he can determine how far he goes.

as for the rest of the draft, Ihenachor intrigues me. We needed a tackle and he has a great baseline of technique with his footwork and great traits. Bernard was an excellent pick. He will contribute as the WR3/slot immediately. Allar was meh and I don’t know a ton about the corner. I thought we did the right thing grabbing Dunker in round 3. I’m glad we waited to draft G. He might start at LG day 1. Wetjen will be our returner and I know nothing of the TE we drafted.

Overall I think we’ve done great. I would’ve preferred an ILB or DT instead of QB where we got Allar, but I can’t blame them for taking a QB either. I think S and ILB can wait another year, but those are the main holes. The hope is that next year QB, ILB, S and DT will be priorities as (hopefully) our WR, OL, and CB issues will be resolved.

    hby? What are your thoughts?

Just curious as to why? Howard was a vocal team leader on a team that won it all… his teammates all attested to that. Not saying anything about Allar, since I have no clue, but Howard is definitely a natural leader.

Name a Penn State wide receiver that he played with that's been drafted. I'll wait.

I didn't want Allar, but I don't have a problem with the Steelers taking a shot on a quarterback they think they can fix in the third round. Taking risks to fix that position is worthwhile.

It is the picks that followed that they botched, starting with Everette over Pregnon.

Allar in the 3rd was the BPA? IMO, he will be an average QB/game manager.

Yeah Howard is as apple pie as you can get. There are no character concerns with either.

Howards leadership skills are one of his assets.

I pretty much agree with most of what you say, only I'm a little higher on Allar than you are. Even if he's another Joe Flacco, that's not too bad, but I hope he's better. I think it was a good draft, they addressed some needs with good players, we'll just have to see they pan out.

For the people who dont like the Allar pick, we had three 3rd round picks and they kept all of them, you’re telling me the upside of Alllar isnt worth the gamble of one of those picks?

Tell me who else in that round would make as much of an impact if each player were to reach their potential. Allar by a country mile.

He had a few years. Proved nothing. He choked over and over when the game was on the line. But hell he's 6'5" 220 pounds with a cannon for an arm. But that's all you're getting at this point. With his physical attributes I would suspect at this point we would see a much more polished QB. But hey on we go. Maybe the steelers will finally develop a QB. But that QB At this point is Howard

Spot on. No other position on the team can move the needle (+/-) more than a QB.

Sure. I mean.....who needs wide receivers to throw to or a proper offense and coaching?

You are certainly welcome to have your own opinion on things, but there are more factors than you seem to be considering about Allar. Howard didn't really do much in his 5 years of eligibility at Kansas St. It wasn't until he got to Ohio State and played with all that talent and all those coaches in his sixth year of eligibility that he actually played quarterback at a pretty high level.

I hope they both do well and I won't call Howard or Allar a failure or a choker before they ever throw a pass at the NFL level.

Howard throws better than Allar. I am not saying Allar cant develop w the right coaching and players around him. The thing is my first impressions of Howard weren't that great, big kind of slow, average arm strength, but he can throw it I have seen it
