We should make a play for Cam and bench Ben.

I think your account should be set to Read only and no longer allowed to start threads ever again. Cam is trash, has been trash!

They'd probably be better off with any Stewart at this point. Jimmy, Martha, Tony, Jackie.....take your pick.

Cam is done as a starter I’d imagine. They’ll be sticking with Ben until the end of the season at least, albeit it would surprise me if he goes on IR the way he is getting pummelled

As an aside, a lot of people wanted Ben gone and to trade for Darnold. The guy is balling for the panthers. Not sure if it’ll last but he looks good right now and it looks like a good investment for Carolina. They have a legit young defence as well

Darnold is still doing some really stupid crap. At least once last night, he fumbled because he was careless with the ball while moving in the pocket to buy time. That said, I'm one of those people who wanted the Steelers to move on from Roethlisberger trade for Darnold. I'm not sure they'd be any better than 1-1 right now, but I'd feel a heck of a lot better about them long-term.

I wasn’t convinced about Darnold but I did want them to move on from Ben, I just thought it was past time.

Most young QB’s do stupid things with the ball from time to time, LJ, Herbert etc. Mahomes would seem to be an outlier, rarely made costly errors even in his first year iirc.

The strip sack? Everyone keeps the ball ready to throw when climbing the pocket. Maybe should have tucked earlier and eaten the sack, or sensed it, but that happens to every QB.

Yep, no way the Steelers could admit defeat when they took a QB from the same class, and who they have on the cheap for one more year.

Tua could be in a similar boat next season. In 2-3 years, any of the guys drafted in 2021 could be, as well. People give up on QBs who struggle in bad situations way too early. It's an alternative path to drafting one.

I agree QBs are given up on far too quickly. Also that a QB who plays like ass for one team can potentially look much better elsewhere. Potentially…

Tannehill is another good example, wasn’t wanted in Miami, went to a better offence that suited his abilities and has been very good for the most part.

That might be our only path this year, with Mason playing the Osweiller role, Ben playing the broken-down Pey-Pey role. D needs to get and stay healthy.

I always liked Fitzmagic..Goes from team to team to team, nobody seems to want him, but he always does pretty well imo...Always played on crappy teams ..But maybe that was partly because of him? idk

even if he went back to being a good QB, he doesn't fit our scheme.

He would be a great backup to have. He can come off the bench and make plays or even give you a few decent starts.

I'm waiting for a qb that makes the players around him better. Bah-humbug to the qb that needs the others to make him look good . :sword:

What You are saying is not wrong, but Tannehill is a bad example. Unless You are just looking at the last 2 Year of Tannehill at Miami. I mean they brought His college football coach in 2 be his Offensive Coordinators when he got drafted....He also had some pretty good (not great)years in Miami. One really good , but he ended up getting injured.
All I'm saying is it's not like He had no success before leaving the Dolphins....Like some other Qbs haven't had when talks of giving up on them 2 early

You are right he wasn’t terrible in Miami by any means, but they did move on all the same. I think the move to Tennessee and that heavy play action scheme brought out the best in him.

How many times have we seen it with Ben? In his prime. The best thing about Ben: He never gives up on a play. The worst thing about Ben: He never gives up on a play.

Anyone can nitpick any QB. However I'm fairly confident that the upside with a Sam Darnold is higher than the upside of Ben today. However, there's no use grinding over it. The Steelers have what they have and we just have to hope it gets better. I sure as hell hope it doesn't get any worse.

The difference here is that Roethlisberger is at the end of a Hall of Fame career. For many years, he made up for the mistakes with spectacular plays.

Darnold has mostly sucked so far in his career, so he hasn't come close to earning that kind of slack. Ball security has been an issue for him since his days at USC. That isn't all erased by three good games, only one of them against a decent opponent.

Don't get me wrong. I think he's at least going to be good for the Panthers. I do wish the Steelers had cut Roethlisberger loose and traded for Darnold. I wrote that I wanted them to get him when he was still with the Jets. I just think he needs to do it a bit longer before we fully trust in his improvement.
