Was that the nail in the coffin for the run game in Pittsburgh, now Ben and BA have legit reason to say we have no need to run. Ever.

I don't think so. I think it was the light bulb going off. They've finally figured out to take what the defense gives you.

This is a new age in the NFL. The pound them at all costs game doesn't work so well. If 3-4 yards at a clip running is what the D gives you, do it. If their secondary is suspect and you can control the clock dinking and dunking, do THAT. Why do you think the Pats had our number for years (other than, you know, the cheating)?

We did have 98 yards rushing. Not gaudy numbers to be sure, but effective considering Ben threw the ball 50 times.

It's a Brave New World. If we don't adapt, we won't be seeing many more Lombardis. This was a good step.

I think what this game showed is why we need a running game. Look at the yards we put up compared to the points we scored. Look at all the stats and then compare our score to the Pats score. The fact is we let the Pats stick around due to us not being able to score TD's. With a good running game, scoring in the red zone would be easier than it currently is for this team.

I don't want to see Ben throwing 50 times a game, because his accuracy isn't that consistent. But if it's working - and it's taking time off the clock, which was the real reason we beat them - then there's no need to keep calling off tackle runs for 2 yards a pop.

Agree, running for 2 yards is pointless when the short passing game is working. But the fact is our passing game wasn't working in the red zone and it hasn't for years now. That's why we absolutely need a running game. Not a running game that gets us 2 yards at a time, but a real running game. If our line isn't good enough for straight up blocking, then Ariens needs to get creative and use schemes to establish a running game. With a good running game, we wouldn't have allowed the Pats to stick around in that game.

The fact is, we blew the Pats out of the water on the stat sheet, but we were still at risk of losing that game on the scoreboard. That simply can't happen. Teams like NE, GB, Philly, New Orleans have the ability to score within 30 seconds. You let teams like that stick around due to kicking FG's and not getting TD's, and bad things will happen.

In the Pats game, the Steelers rushed 23 times for 98 yards.... that's 4.3 per rush

Mendenhall rushed 13 times for 70 yards... that's 5.4 per rush

Above is correct. How can we out Rice...Rice?

It doesn't seem to me that we can't make the correct adjustments and game plans with the talent we have. They just need to do it. That's why we are so enthusiastic and all believe so strongly in this team. This wouldn't be the case if we were browns fans.

    Go STEELERS!!!

I sure hope we don't out-Flacco, Flacco. If we do, it will mean crapping down the leg.

Ariens forgot to use it when we needed it the most.

Sometimes you just need to be happy about winning the game. Especially against an opponent you haven't been able to beat in what, the last 8 meetings ? Last week the majority of the sentiment on here was we'd be lucky to even win and now for some of you guys winning still wasn't enough. We should have won by 3 more TDs. Wow, just wow LOL

I'm very happy with the win, but I'm just saying if we had a running game, we would have won by more. I don't care if we win by 1 or 50, but when you let teams hang around, you risk losing. I don't want to see us lose in the future due to scoring FG's instead of TD's. I don't care that we didn't win by more against the Pats.

I hear ya but you can't take the result of the Pats game and assume every game thereafter will be the same. The Pats weakness on D was stopping the pass so that's the spot the Steelers tried to exploit in that particular game. That won't mean anything come Sunday vs Baltimore where I'm sure there will be a heavier mix of run vs pass. I don't know the numbers off hand but if I'm not mistaken redzone efficiency has been pretty good the last few games in regards to TD's vs FG's. I don't see anything to be alarmed about yet. It's only been the last 2 weeks we've had most of the same guys playing together on the OL.

On the predict the score thread last week, there were only 2 people who picked the patsies and one who only predicted a score but wouldn't say who was going to win -- haha. Everyone else picked our boys to win that game. Albeit, many of the predictions were by a small margin - like 3 or 4 points. But the point is that most of us were predicting a win.

Maybe that's just because we are bunch of wishful homers believing that the monkey has to come of the back sometime and this was as good a time as any. The fact of the matter is that our coaching staff put together a very good gameplan to beat them on both O and D that complimented each other instead of against and our players executed. I think what most folks are saying is that this team (players and coaches) has the potential to be world beaters week in and week out and they proved it Sunday. So if they don't show up and perform to their potential it is hugely disappointing.
