Right now it is raining turnovers for the Steelers. When it stops raining, the three rivers will run dry.

Can this Tomlin lead team win a +1 to -1 turnover game? With the amount of yards we give up on defense and the offensive output I say we lose 60% of these types of games with the current coaching and talent we have.

    But right now, it's raining.

Hey coach, we don't want a +6 TO margin. You need to dial it back for a +1.

(fyi, Jets game was a +1 TO margin)

And we beat the Browns without forcing a turnover.

The question is whether the Steelers can beat a quality team without dominating turnovers like crazy... It's been a problem for at least five years.

I knew that if the Steelers were going to beat the Colts, it would be through turnovers... The defense had a great game, and I give them credit, but in the two quality wins the Steelers had this year, the defense had 11 turnovers... They need to find another way to win in the long run against those quality teams

Turnovers are part of the game. Saying that we can't beat a good team without them is like saying we won't beat them without a good passing game. But that is a myopic way of seeing it IMO.

Right now, we are living the good life from turnovers. But at the end of the day, how you win really does not matter, only that you do win. It could be from a strong rush game, a big day on passing, 6 Boswell Field goals, and yes....a plus 6 turnover differential.

If one area is not firing on all cylinders, hopefully another steps it up to take up the slack. That is the advantage of being a team sport.

Getting 6 TOs in a game is awesome. However only winning that game by 7 points is not so awesome.

In the playoffs, and against good teams, you will be lucky to get a single turnover. Can we win a playoff game when we don't have a monstrous advantage in turnovers? Over the last decade or so the answer has been a resounding NO.

Save for the muffed punt, all of the turnovers were forced through dominant play.......

You might as well be saying that we can't beat a quality team without scoring more points

Yes, the Steelers deserve credit for their turnovers, but if they need 3-5 turnovers to win against quality teams, that's not a good recipe

At some point, the Steelers will have to outgain their opponents.

The biggest issue is getting off the field on 3rd down more often. They play bend but don't break and rely on turnovers/sacks to a degree that it's really a splash or get gashed defense. If they play sound ball, the turnovers and sacks will come.

The Steelers were up big with very little time left in the game. We allowed some garbage time points that mean nothing. The Steelers dominated in that game. No other way to color it. The Steelers did that to the best team in the AFC in that moment. What quality team are you referring to here?

I understand that, in fact it was 18 years ago the last time the Steelers forced 6 turnovers in a game. So it isn't sustainable to win like that on a regular basis but if they keep flying around the ball and making big hits good things will continue to happen.

Is relying on these really a sign of healthy living?

I agree they dominated this game defensively and they deserve credit for their turnovers... I also agree that it was more of a 27-10 game than a 27-20 game.

But I hope they'll be able to win games against quality teams without needing a crazy number of defensive turnovers like in games like next Sunday vs. the Chargers, since having tons of turnovers doesn't work every week, even when you play great defense... It's a concern I've had for several years now. They need to outgain their opponents at some point

Nice try but I consider the Pats and Colts as quality teams right now

    BS
you said the only reason the Pats game went into the victory column was because they fumbled the ball.
How is that a quality team?

    you act like
    Not one of our players
    punched
    stripped
    or
    blasted the player creating

I hate when it's like third and three and then the offense gets a penalty and it becomes third and 13. I just know that means that 22 yard play is coming..,..lol,.... I can't believe how many times we've had them at 3rd and long only for them to pull the rabbit out of a hat and get the first down. It just seems like on third and long, they lose their mind.

If you think the five turnovers by the steelers defense weren't a huge factor in our win against the pats, I don't know what to say, especially since three of those turnovers were in the red zone.

It's part of the game, but my point is that at some point, the Steelers will have to be able to win against good teams without a crazy turnover differential... that's just my opinion. If you think it's realistic to have a lot of games by creating a crazy number of turnovers, I just don't agree with that... It might happen once in a while but a team has to be able to win in other ways against those teams if the Steelers want to become a great team.

The only reason we got outgained is because we took our foot off the gas when we took the big lead.....
All of those extra yds the Colts got were basically garbage yds

Honestly, we cannot beat a very good offense without turnovers as we don’t have an offense that can score 30+ points per game. Our offense is a 17-20 point offense without turnovers.
On the other hand, we have the most expensive defense in the league so it should produce TO’s. And Rodgers does a very good job of not creating TO’s on offense.
