Vince Williams - not sure how his stats look but he seems to do well out there. does not seem to get pushed around. Moats looks good too.

forget these first round draft picks at linebacker

I like Vince Williams. What he may lack in athleticism he makes up for with heart, determination and physicality.

Williams is a good solid backup.

Vince is starter material for sure, nice to have some solid depth for a change.

I think Spence has been battling injuries.

He is playing very well and could start for a lot of Teams, we have extra depth at the position and none at another ...It might be time to start thinking on who we can trade and what we could get for them...

I love Timmons, but he's getting long in the tooth as far as mileage goes, and we have an adequate replacement on our roster. I would hate to see him go, but the financially prudent thing to do may be to let Timmons go and keep Williams (and Spence). While Timmons is a pro-bowl player, he's not worth the $15 million cap hit he'll have. We'll lose some leadership, but I think Williams can also fill that role. Plus we have Heyward. Only room for so many high-priced veterans on our team, especially if we want to keep our offense humming along.

Not a move I'd like to make but unless he takes a drastic pay cut it's the wise thing to do.

We have some of the best depth at middle line backer in the NFL. I think Williams could start for a ton of teams.
I have no problem with Spence either, but Williams is a sure tackler.

I like Williams too. He could probably start for this team if he wasn't so limited in his game. He just isn't the athlete to be an every down player in today's NFL. He is certainly a better player than Spence though. I think Spence does an alright job too. It really helps to have really good depth. It's part of the reason why we're still in the hunt with all of our injuries this year

Well if we had the right players at other spots then he could be more of a every down player ...All that is needed is Safeties who can come down and match up as well as 1 shut down CB . You can run man or zone or man zone and keep the MLB moving forward it the other parts of the D can do their job...

I have been a fan of VW for some time. He brings it. Watching a good close up camera shot of Timmons chasing down a back, he is injured. His body mechanics looked horrible. Turf toe could snatch him before his time.

I will be absolutely shocked if Tomlin lets Timmons go. Some of the players have even said that Timmons is flat out his favorite. Tomlin is loyal to "his" guys and maybe to a fault but Timmons has been very solid for us and I just don't think we let him walk. At the same time though I don't know that's he's worth that much of a cap hit either though.

Love V Dub. Definitely a thumper in the run game and it seems like his coverage skills are improving also. He's nice on STs too.

Yeah love Vince... if it wasn't for the three man rotation between him, Shazier and Spence, I'm perfectly fine with him as a starter.

Letting Timmons go at this point and time would be a huge, huge...did I say HUGE...mistake!

They're both pieces of the puzzle. The thing that impresses me most about Williams is his improvement - he was promising last year, and has stepped up to that kind of Larry Foote-esque solid MLB role. Who knows, next year maybe he steps it up again and impresses us some more.

agreed. i'd keep all the depth at ILB. the only one may be 57 we could part with. i think fort could manage that role and improve it as another in the rotation when injuries occur.

If Worilds had not unexpected retired I wonder if Tuit is still the #1 or if they would have went with another position.

You mean Dupree? Very well could have, glad it worked out this way though, I think Dupree will be much better than Worilds.

Tuitt was a 2nd rd pick.

VW98 is definitely the man. Probably my favorite back-up. And like some others have posted, I don't believe that the Steelers will let go of Timmons. Tomlin's first pick and a workhorse. He'll retire a Steeler imo.

He is clicking big time according to this blurb in the PPG:

Tomlin alternated starter Ryan Shazier with Vince Williams on occasion at inside linebacker and that, too, seemed to work. Although Williams played just 13 snaps on defense, he had a fumble recovery and seven tackles, one off the team lead and one more than Shazier, who played 45 snaps.
