Did anyone see this? They are looking at holding a "scouting combine" for NFL veteran free agents. Supposed to take place in March. Saw it on NFL.com. They didn't give too many details on what criteria the invites need to pass.

Sounds like they're trying to pass the idle time between the Super Bowl and the draft. But it could be informative, guess we'll see.

I actually don't think this is a bad idea.

For lesser known players, perhaps not. Maybe they've struggled to get playing time due to their team being front loaded with too much talent at their position. Maybe they didn't fit right with their system. Or struggled through injuries and never got a moment to shine.

It's one more way for them to show teams what they can do.

Much like the rookie combine, it's not the end all be all of evaluation. But it can't hurt.

stupid idea........ The really good f.a. will rest on their laurels (especially those who played at a high level in their contract yr.)... the other lessor known vets, will not get much action either, because they've already been scouted as well at some point.

The veteran scouting combine is this Sunday (3/22). For players 1-3 years in the league with no team. Guys like Tebow, Michael Sam, etc.

I heard that Sam was going to be there...... maybe I'm missing something, but don't you have to actually have to have played in the league to be considered a veteran

I'd take a flyer out on Carriker, he's been out of football for a couple years but he's still automatically better than Thomas.

Michael Sam ran a slower .40 this time than he did at the college combine. It took him 5 seconds flat to run it. They said before he was like 4.91 or something like that. Wicotts said he thinks he's too weak to be a DE and too slow to be a backer. Another analyst said that he thinks his only hope would be to be a DE that plays with one hand on the ground.

Why won't Michael Sam just go away, and the media let him go, ESPN had a lil deal on him today, saying he was giveing a speach and was talking about how there are gay players in the NFL that have reached out to him..... So what, who cares,??? Is this gona be his claim to fame??. If the player's in the NFL don't wana come out, Why does he have to keep bringing them up.:facepalm:

Well, he may be getting paid to do speeches. It's really unlikely that he'll ever collect another NFL paycheck. Sam is an example of why you can't judge a player's pro potential based on college stats and honors. The guy was SEC co-defensive player of the year, and he completely lacks the physical tools to be an NFL player.

Bingo, The key is do they transition or can you see them transitioning to the pro game? A talent evaluator is worth his weight in gold.KC is very good at this evaluating the WR position.
