"Un-approved" Facemasks Prohibited?

So now, they`re outlawing "unapproved" facemasks?

I`ve seen it in other articles, but this was the first place I thought to look for a link.
Of course, they`re doing it in the name of "players safety", claiming that defenders are more prone, to "lead with the head", while wearing such gear...
I smell B.S ...
First off, I`m sure plenty of "traditionalists", and old-school football fans, think this is a good thing.
And I can see where yinz are coming from, but, I think some of the new facemasks look pretty damn cool, and menacing.
I`m not a big fan of colored visors, but the masks themselves, just look pretty bad-ass...
Plus, some players, actually have a history of broken noses, bein poked in the eyes, broken jaws, etc. ...
They are allowed to apply for a "waiver" to this new law, if they can document their injuries...
On a side note, I don`t think it`s in the link that I provided, but, on the NFL site, you can see some of the "old school" facemasks, like the "one-bar", for kickers/quarterbacks, and some of the first, that players used, to "push the envelope", to try for new designs, etc...
There are some pretty neat ones, there in the photo gallery...
As it is, I just don`t see the harm, or why they want to regulate it.
Sure, fingers can get broken in them grills...
DON`T GRAB THE FACEMASK!!!
So, I guess they are gonna start fining players that continue to wear them...
I wonder who will, and how big of a fine they will pay?
Kinda like writing "PFJ" on their shoes, or having unapproved logos /decals, on their uni`s?
I`m fairly "old school" myself, and I can understand why a lot of older fans would disapprove of the "video-game" look to the helmets,
but, I just can`t help it.
