    Good read - and there are PLENTY of stories of the mystique of the Towel - including the punishment absorbed by those who disrespect it.

    A little story of my own Terrible Towel experience.

    The first NFL game I ever went to in person was the Steelers vs Patriots in New England in 2008. We woke up that morning to near freezing temperatures accompanied with ice pellets and freezing rain. It poured all game long.

    We were 8 rows up from the 40 yard line on the Steelers side of the field. There were quite a few Steeler fans where we were, but were certainly surrounded by the Patriot faithful. I had brought two towels with me that day, not sure why, but I just did. I kept one in my pocket and was waiving the other one all pre-game long and into the second quarter of the game. Unfortunately, despite the fact Tom Brady had been out all season, Matt Cassel took a 10-3 lead on us into the second quarter. Things were not looking good for the Steelers.

    There was a Steeler fan sitting in front of me (I believe he was from Rhode Island), who had forgot his towel. He blamed this for the Steelers poor start. He asked if he could have mine. I had originally said no, but he insisted saying it would reverse the jinx for forgetting his. He offered to buy it since he wanted to keep it, and since beer at Gilette ain't cheap, I went ahead and took the offer, after all, I still had 1 towel in my pocket.

    No sooner than we made the swap, the Steelers marched down the field for a Santonio Holmes TD. From that point on, it was all Steelers.

    It was a Towel Miracle.

    Here's something I've brought up about the towel. In 08 I was at the game that we lost to the Titans. I went with a friend that wasn't even a Steelers fan but just wanted to go to an NFL game. So when the game was over and he called to let his wife know we were on the way home she asked him why it was such a big deal for Lendale White to "stomp on that towel?" and I was like "WHAT!" Then I said "Oh! You know what? He can stomp it all he wants because the last time Housh desecrated the towel in 05 we went on to win the Super Bowl!" Well we all know how 08 ended don't we? I've always found that sorta funny. BTW later in the week Jeff Fisher took Lendale in and sat him down for a "history lesson" on the Terrible Towel and told him why we love it so much and why that's so insulting to us. And last I heard Lendale was a backup at some team that's out near the pacific ocean crying about refs cheating in Super Bowl 40....
