Ha! My wife said almost the exact same thing. "What is this, Game of Thrones??" :roflmao:

They somehow coax a watchable performance out of Colin Farrell for the first time ever and then they do that? Screw you True Detective. Screw. You. :lolol:

    Maybe he's not really dead?

I can't see too many ways he could survive... and most of them would be too convenient. (plot armor)

SPOILER (don't click if you don't want to know): https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/1318087947975668883.jpg

maybe they were bean bag rounds? Or he had a vest on? Either way, I still don't see how he's walking around after it. Even a bean bag round at point blank would rupture organs or cause cardiac arrest if it hits in the right place. And why in hell would the bird man use non-lethal rounds?!?!?!

I happened to be flipping through the channels when that scene came on, didn't know what I was watching but yeah that dudes dead for sure :lolol:

I'm surprised they would kill off a big name actor so quickly but they were obviously going for shock value, unless Collins character will be in a lot of flashback scenes moving forward.

I've been meaning to get into this show but never got around to putting it on my watch list, this seems like a good time to jump in, do you need to watch season 1 or is this season completely independent? I'm guessing you don't since it's an entirely different cast?

I didn't follow the link, but when I saw the scene, I thought Bird Man may very well have been using non lethal rounds. I'm just speculating here...he might very well be dead, but, if you get shot close range with a shotgun...it's going to be really messy.

As to why- who knows. Myabe so he could capture him, torture him, make him watch his son get beat up by 100 bullies before killing him. While I'm throwing out wild theories, maybe Bird Man is Vince Vaughn. It sure seemed like a setup.

They're completely independent and very different. Honestly, I'm struggling a little bit with this one. I'm sure it will get better with each episode, but the last one was- wow. For me, it was like a really good book that you can't put down. Highly recommend watching the first one.

I'm not on board Vince being the guy. He wanted to find whatshisface because he was brokering his big payday deal. NOW he wants the killer because he figures that guy has his money. Ray is his guy. Makes no sense.

Yeah, I don't really think that. Like I said, I was just throwing out wild theories. :smiley1:

True Detective season 1 is a must watch. It's really that good. As for season 2 the jury is still out.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely be checking it out.

I was just watching the episode again where Ray gets killed, birdman does have Vaughns build and Ray did tell him he wants out.

Whoever it was, pretty sloppy work by Ray, he was really careless.

So have you all given up on this? :lolol:

I actually like it, which makes me want to watch season 1 even more since that one gets all the raves. I admit, I'm struggling with Vaughn, if anyone has ever been typecast, its him. I think Collin is great in it, same as Adams, the dour moody detective thing is bit overplayed and stereotypical but I like it overall.

Last episodes ending was intense, talk about a bust gone wrong.

I agree that the last episode was great. The problem I'm having - and I suspect others do as well- is that it's just not nearly as good as last year's version. The mystery isn't as good- it seems like a 21st century reworking of Chinatown- and there is no one as epically interesting as McConaughey.
BTW- Kelly Reilly, the actress playing Vaughn's wife, is actually a Brit and doing a good job with the accent. I saw her on a show when I was in the UK last summer, called Above Suspicion, which was good. She plays a detective who gets some really grisly cases.

My problem is Taylor Kitsch. It's almost painful watching him try to act. I'm sure the ladies adore him. But... sheesh. I've seen better acting in Sharknado!

I'm genuinely enjoying this season overall. But they need to pick up the pace or raise the stakes a bit. Right now, it's kind of a slog. (that nicely done bit of action notwithstanding)

That always catches me off guard, when an actor/actress talk as they really sound in an interview, like Andrew Lincoln from TWD, had no idea he was British :lolol:

As for True Detective, I think the fact that I haven't seen the first season is why I'm not struggling with this as others are. And even know I haven't seen it, I know the actors who were in it and it is a superior cast to this season.

I've stayed away from this thread, because I missed the last two episodes. I'll get caught up in the next couple days.

Anyone else think Frank and his wifes dialogue is extremely soap opera-ish???

Interesting development though, Frank set up Velecro.

I had a nagging suspicion from the start. Easy way to get a cop on your take. Have him kill a guy and help cover it up. ANY guy. Someone you need killed? Even better.

But part of me also thought it was legit.

And yeah. Frank and his wife: normal people don't speak like that.

Ok, so I think if I had not turned this on when bird man unloaded on Velcora, Id have not stuck with this. I'm going to go watch the first season in hopes that it is as good as everyone says it is.

The first season is all that and a bag of chips. It didn't quite stick the landing, but overall it was excellent.

This season is a pile of cow dung by comparison.
