Didn't we actually do a Top 5 list on here a couple of years ago? I was thinking we did and that's fine. My point is just that if you could go back and find that thread everyone's Top 5 might even be different now than it was then. It's just too hard to definitively nail it down. As of right now for me personally I'd say...

    1. Mean Joe
    2. Jack Lambert
    3. Mel Blount
    4. Hines Ward
    5. Heeeeeeeeath

    Now ask me again tomorrow....

Clearly any Alltime Steeler list that doesn't at least consider Franco Harris isn't worth the paper it's written on in my opinion even with his fumbling issue.... Tony Dorsett had the same number of fumbles and Walter Payton had 4 fewer....

Franco was not only the Greatest FB of Alltime but he was also...
NFL Rookie of the year!! 9 time probowler! An Allpro 1st and 2nd team... 4 time SB champ... SB lX MVP... NFL 70's All decade team... 100 career TD's ... 4.1 career rush avg.... At time of retirement he was second all time career rushing yds.... Still today Steelers all time leader in Rush yds and TDs..... His #32 is longer issued out to players..... Oh yeah , he's also a 1st Ballot HOFer.... Just my opinion but I remember him back in the day and I remember before him no playoffs and once he left no playoffs..... Yes...... He belongs

    I love being this spoiled...:herewego!:

    Think about it...
    More interesting question for debate...

Is there any other TEAM that would have such a hard time picking there best 5 or 10 ALL TIME players?

Maybe Green Bay, Indy, Oakland, Dallas, Chicago, Niners, Chargers,(Cough... Clowns, Patriots)etc, could come up with FIVE easy ones...

After that..., and, including those teams..TEN that would really be debateable???

    I`m counting my blessings...

    GO STEELERS!!!

(Actually, EVERY team has 10 best, it`s just that their 10 best ain`t in the HOF, or on a level with our 20th best!!!LOL!:herewego:)

Well that's why I was saying like "my" Top 5. If it was down to pure who actually "deserves" to be there then I'd say Heath wouldn't get to be there. Hines could have a case though since he owns the record books, for the most part and until AB smashes them, and he has a Super Bowl MVP to his name and that puts him in a category with Lynn Swann. It wouldn't bother me to see him omitted from any list though. I feel like Lambert and Mean Joe are the ones that always HAVE to be there. The problem for me is really trying to name the other 3.

    1. Joe Greene
    2. Mel Blount
    3. Jack Ham
    4. Jack Lambert
    5. Franco Harris

It's always been my top five. And I never had the pleasure to watch them live (I've seen most of the games). I grew up loving Rod Woodson, Greg Lloyd, and the Bus and the Steelers of the '90s. But that will always be my top 5.

Sorry but Ben has to be number 2 or 3 on any list. He is far and away the best qb we have had and stats wise he may be the best player we have ever had. When it is all said and done he is going to shatter every Steelers record for a QB with the exception of SB titles which is a team thing not a player. If you ignored everything and just looked at the stat sheet he would probably be #1.

We've had this debate many times over and a fair solution broke it into decades which on its own means nothing but most Steeler super stars seemed to break along the decades (Hines and Ben being the exceptions - so pick their best decade). This system would then allow Bradshaw, Brister, O'Donnell and Ben to each get their appropriate recognition...........sorry - just kidding on this last point ;).

I can't put Ben on this solely because of his history of inconsistency. If we are going to look at stats, that's a big one. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he plays for us. Bradshaw isn't on my list for the same reason, and I loved the guy. Guys like Greene, Lambert and Webster brought their "A" game every game. If I have to get down to 5, you had to be consistently great.

I'm sure if you put them under the microscope a An is under you would see their flaws as well. It's like in baseball trying to compare the pitcher to the rest of the team.
