I was thinking the same thing. I wish we would move on from Tomlin, but that's not happening. I do love that the normal crybabies are going to be miserable because of this though.

And he has a say in who surrounds him. If he doesn't have the right support staff, it's on him.

If the Steelers didn't have a precedent for holding onto head coaches forever and ever I'd agree with you, but they do have a precedent. If Tomlin were a white guy, we'd still be bitching about him and ownership would be still be signing him to an extension.

Now should the day come where they would want to get rid of him for some reason, then yeah politics may become a factor.

You guys are spoiled. This is the equivalent of Bill Self being a 3 or 4 seed in the NCAA tournament for a few straight years instead of 1 or 2 and having Kansas fans go "This guy is terrible!! Commitment to mediocrity!" Meanwhile, 90% of teams are going "hopefully we can even make the tournament this year"

Nobody hopes to go one-and-done. But the minute we hire someone else, go 6-10/7-9 for a couple years and miss the playoffs (like most teams) you guys will be sending Mike Tomlin "u up?" texts at 2am

I wouldn't because I would give them credit for at least trying something different. Maybe they could do better, maybe they could do worse idk. At least show you're trying.

If they can get to 12-4 without trying, or never have a losing season without trying... man, that's proof positive we should keep the dude

Imagine, an AFC North title without trying? I'd keep him just for that. The playoff game sucked my balls, but Mike Tomlin didn't playcall Pouncey rifling the ball into the end zone, nor did he scheme 4 Ben picks. Some of those were tips too. Terrell Edmunds had a fun time watching Nick Chubb that day (he had the best seats in the house and didn't even have to get his shirt dirty!) but that game was on the players IMHO.

The Jaguars game? On Tomlin and Butler

We have already seen the same posters say the same crap year after year like things will change. Each year I say I’ll see you on the year end post when nothing has changed. Sadly that happens like clockwork.

You're missing the simpler explanation. Rooney likes warm beer and free range eggs.

Clockwork... that reminds me of a joke.

The POTUS was sitting behind his desk one afternoon with his pants down around his ankles when he asked for an intern to come into the oval office. He then pushed his chair away from the desk exposing himself and asked the intern to take a look at his clock. The intern said, "oh Mr. President, that isn't a clock!" To which POTUS replied, "put two hands and a face on it and it is!"

But what does that have to do with Mike Tomlin? The Rooney's like Tomlin as their head coach. Society has nothing to do with that.

They didn't have to extend him until after the season. He was already going to be here for this year. There is no positive PR to be gained by extending him now. They did it because they want him to be the head coach for the foreseeable future.

Like I said, I personally disagree. It's time for a change. All these coaches have a shelf life. Tomlin's expiration date passed a few years ago.

It's like that one lonely beer that has been sitting in the back of Grandmas fridge. You know it's been in there too long to taste good. But if drinking it means you don't have to go out shopping, then bottoms up.
