I don’t give a **** who you are or if you may or may not wear a gold jacket. When you decide to sleep through team meetings etc you are putting yourself above the team. You do that it’s time to go. You let one person do that **** suddenly everyone else is as well.

Really? I thought he was short changed. If he had equal or even 30-40% than eff him.

You are remembering more than I do. Don’t remember the sleeping bit.

He was becoming a distraction to say the least. He was trying to get released.

Steelers could have said F-U and just sent him home but did him a solid because of their history together and gave him his release.

Then he turns around and signs with NE. That was a dick move but no one else was knocking his door down to sign him so I get it, he wanted to play. He really didn’t have anything left in the tank though and did very little with NE and they let him freelance and gave him every opportunity to make an impact.

I can’t fault him for wanting to play

And I think he should have played more

That was Watt’s rookie season and rookies wear out and Watt most certainly did

I believe if JH had played more and played against Jacksonville we would have won

Watt was horrible in that game and repeatedly gave up first downs on third and long that should/could have been punts

Going to NE was just an opportunity nothing more

He did, though the numbers are a little misleading because he played every snap against the Bengals. If I remember correctly, Watt and Highsmith both missed part or all of that game. He played at least 49 percent of the snaps each of the first five games, then only 26 in Week 6. I guess that set him off, though I'm not sure if it was just the flow of that game or the way things were going to go the rest of the way.

How many times did Harrison have to take over for Alvin?

Without him their is no 6th Lombardi and Tomlin stares at zero Super Bowl wins.

The guy was simply a beast. Feared. Oh and still holds the Steelers sack record.

He wanted a bit more playing time, that's it. He deserved it. Seems there was more going on behind the scenes. Him falling asleep was a signal he was dissatisfied. He deserved better. So they released him and he went to the cheats and then he was hated by some. Seems it was a Tomlin power trip.

TJ made all rookie team so I don’t know how much he actually wore out. At any rate, I did a film break down off the All 22 after that game and Watt wasn’t the problem. Vince, Spence, Fort, Bud even Heyward made crucial mistakes that led to TD’s. Think Burns did, too.

No one on defense showed up though. Old man Harrison wouldn’t have made a difference in that game. They were down 21-0 before you could blink, game was over then.

And he actually did make an impact for NE in his first game with them in the sack department.

All 3 Watt brothers at the right price?

Are you in or out on DJ coming back and JJ coming to Pittsburgh on league minimum deals for 1 more year?

His making rookie team was based on the full year not how he played in a playoff game at the end so that is irrelevant

And I was at the game watching him repeatedly loose containment when the play would break down and the QB would scramble away from Watt for a first down that’s the equivalent of a turnover

He was worn out JH would not have lost containment

Just means he had a bad game along with the rest of the defense or maybe the whole team was worn out, certainly played like it.

I’m thinking a few loss containments didn’t have as much to losing the game as the turnovers and digging a 21 point hole in the first quarter. Or the blown plays on the TD’s by the players I mentioned, thinking that played a much bigger role.

Of course, if Harrison didn’t behave like such a dick and had been a team player, mentoring the rookies and just making himself available in case the team needed him, say like maybe a playoff game, maybe the outcome would have been different as you suggest.

They were trying to develop two young OLBs, Harrison was past his prime, he doesn't get to dictate his playing time because of what he did in the past for the team .

The best part was watching Harrison lose in the Super Bowl with the Patriots, I remember him walking off the field as the confetti was dropping :hehehe:.

We will need to agree to disagree here

For me it is simple... IF they want JJ, they are going to have to sign Derek Watt back on the team. The only reason for JJ to unretire is if he has a chance to play with both of his brothers.

JJ coming here is a pipedream, but I don't think it happens without Derek.

The odd man out will be Zach Gentry if they want a family reunion in Pittsburgh.

JJ Watt as a Steeler would be a novelty.
    But a good one.
What makes it so is that the Steelers are not looking for 'the guy' to play every down.
They are just looking for depth, rotational player to keep the guys up front fresh.
Looking around I don't see where I could find a better option.

I think JJ is more committed to watching the game these days though.

    RE: Harrison.
Sometimes its tough watching a great career coming to an end. Namath in a Ram uniform was tough to stomach.. and others followed not wanting to say 'it's over.'
I'm not at all sold on the 'Me First' thingy.. That's just the very soul of his personality being spun in a weird angle.
Harrison's career was a struggle from day one. He was always a brawler, a scrapper.. he was fierce and most definitely a predator.

I know Harrison. I also know he felt as though he was still leaving plays on the field. I think he would suit up today.
But it is obvious, his self-developed skills were waning. He was like a very old Grizzly Bear that can no long chase down a wounded sloth, but if it came within arm's reach - game over.
Lotta pride there... hard earned pride. I greatly admire his efforts to obtain success. I don't agree with everything he did or went about things, but it was his path.
To me, I choose to remember his career only as a Steeler. He should have too.
