Steelers coach Mike Tomlin rarely shows a soft side.

But yesterday’s loss to the Broncos left the hard-boiled coach emotional, which his players had never seen.

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tomlin broke down when addressing his team in the locker room.

“There was a lot of emotion. I never saw him cry like that,” wide receiver Martavis Bryant said. “I cried, too. It’s just a hurt feeling. It’s just really hard right now. Because of the adversity we faced. It’s a hurtful feeling.”

“I’m glad I have a coach like that,” defensive end Cam Heyward added. “It hurts even worse, because he’s right in the battle with us.”

Tomlin has every right to feel an emotional attachment to this team, is it had to overcome so much to even get to this point.

His quarterback had to get shot up to play, he was without his best wide receiver, his top two tailbacks and his left tackle and center, and their offense got them this far.

That’s the kind of resilience it’s easy to invest in, and care so much about that it can move you.

I believe it if Bouchette reported it, he's pretty on cue with his reporting.

I think hes the best in the nfl. Griswald, what do you want chip kelly ?.

The thing tomlin cant over come is the refs always working against us. I really think the league cant wait for a big money team or a pretty boy to tie us up for trophies. Think they cant stand seeing a blue collar team on top.

I have no doubt this is true. They played their asses off yesterday. I am VERY proud of how they played despite missing KEY players.

I have always said he is as an emotional coach that there is. only problem is they don't stick a camera on him like some of the others so you don't see it. I am on record with it and still believe it. he is a top 3 coach at any level

I can tell you this... the players witnessing that their coach has a human side will stick with them and light a fire within them that they will not be satisfied until Tomlin is smiling and celebrating hoisting the Lombardi trophy in 2016 bank it. I'm sure this has happened to everyone once in their lives if you've ever played organization sports or been a member of a team. You can chew up metal and spit out nails but it happens to the best of us "the human side" it builds character in your team and players.

I think they are upset cause they let an opportunity slip away. There was no great team this year... we easily could have been champs.

I feel bad for all the guys. I even feel bad for Tomlin, though I'm just not a fan. I just wish he'd stay out of the game sometimes.
They interviewed Cam Heyward & he almost made me cry. They said Toussaint was inconsolable & he stayed in the locker room for a long time talking to Ben. I blamed the loss on him at first but without him catching that pass in the Bengals game, we may not have won. Harrison was talking to the media & he was getting angry at them talking about that fumble. He just said that the Broncos executed & they didn't. The defense let them convert on a 3rd & 12, let them get a TD & a 2 pt conversion. Plenty of blame & I feel awful for them.

If Ben stays healthy nxt year,( and Tomlin doesnt make some bad choices) we will be the first team in history to go 19-0

It seemed so many players stepped up to replace the injured starters that I'm sure the coaching staff and Tomlin in particular felt more of an attachment than usual if that makes sense. If it was the same starters all season, I'm sure there'd be different emotions. But with all the 2nd and 3rd stringers showing up to play for this team, I can see why this season would be so devastating emotionally imo.

This is going to build major character for this team going forward. When your at your lowest low that's when find your identity this team went through the gauntlet together their going to be a force to deal with.

    1. Tomlin is not the best in the league.

    2. The refs had nothing to do with losing to Denver. They called 5 penalties on one team and 4 on the other.

    3. There is no conspiracy. The best teams make it every year because of their consistency and preparation.

    4. The Steelers are no longer a blue collar team.

A blue collar team doesn't go 5 wide on 3 and 1- it runs right down your throat.
