I read somewhere that that Tomlin was asked what Boz was doing when he kicked those two kickoffs out of bounds. Tomlin said he hasn't spoken to him about it.

I find it puzzling that the head coach doesn't talk to his players, especially ones who have gaffed. I know kickers are an odd breed, but to not have talked to him, either words of encouragement or some chastising to get his head in the game, seems odd. I have heard similar things from all coaches, and it just seems strange that they don't communicate more. Is it delegation to the assistant coaches, or are they lying and he really has talked to him?

40-yard line starting field position for opposing teams needs to end now. Ravens had great field position all day long.

With the exception of the call on Shazier... Boswell's kickoffs pissed me off the most, and there were many bad calls by the refs.

There probably isn't a need to talk to him about it. It was a mistake, these things happen some times. Now if he intentionally kicked it out of bounds, then Tomlin would have something to talk to him about, but Boz knows what he needs to do and doesn't need to be reminded. It would be no different than talking to Ben after an INT. Unless there's a pattern, there's no need.

Is it possible that Tomlin did talk to him and his answer was a way of telling the asker that it's an internal matter and nunya?

I agree. That, and I take anything coaches feed the media with a grain of salt.

At least his Field Goals are going through the uprights. Not sure why he kicked two out of bounds. But, hopefully it doesn't happen again, because you do that against the Patriots or a good team, your going to get murdered.

Can't make mistakes like that vs. Patriots. They will score 99% of the time. Steelers will have to play a perfect game at Foxborough in order to win, if they make it that far.

Dolphins are at a disadvantage with their QB situation, so are the Raiders. Of course, the Steelers have a tendency to make backup QBs look like Joe Montana in his prime. Mike Glennon and Ryan Mallet, for example.

Watch Tomlin's press conference from Tuesday on steelers.com and check for the context.

What value would Tomlin telling Boz "don't do that" have?

Boz knows he ****ed up, and if it was mechanical, his Coaching Smith is the right guy to work with him on it.

Knowing when you need to communicate and when you don't is a skill.... a skill that a Tomlin has.

I'm highly skilled at not talking to people. There are about 6 billion people on earth I seldom talk to.

Special teams coordinator Danny Smith made no excuses for it happening, but said they are already working on correcting what caused it.

“There is no excuse for it,” said Smith. “There is nobody that heard more about it than Chris Boswell. Monday morning Boz was in my office early, shut the door and he said let’s take a look at those kickoffs. When you are coaching a guy like that, how important it is to him, what it means to him, what it means to this city and his teammates, it’s special when a guy does that. We found a little bit of a flaw in a certain kick. We corrected it on the video. He and I will carry it out in practice. You don’t want to give the ball on the 40-yard line in any situation to anybody. If you see the reaction of the cover team it upsets a lot of people. That is how they get back. That is their job, is in coverage, and we have a team that likes to cover. It’s not a good situation and you can’t put the defense in that situation.”

    No issue,

During Tuesday press conference Coach T was asked about Boz and his two poor KO.... With a smirk he he said he hadn't talked to him and was kinda avoiding him from what I gathered as he was upset with him and it was best they didn't talk this soon... I found it humorous and nothing concerning.... Kinda like this thread

Not sure what that's going to achieve. You watch the plays on film, determine what needs to be corrected, and then work on it. It's not like the kid was just sloughing off and not caring. People make mistakes. :poopy: Happens.

I agree. Plus kicking is such a mental thing. If Tomlin were to talk to him it would just go to his head, and he would really start kicking like crap. he has been solid and has a great head on his shoulders. Wouldn't worry about that happening in the wild card round.
