I read an article on my phone earlier where Tomlin was laying the blame squarely on the offense and he was talking about how the backs are a huge problem for the team. But the thing that caught my eye was when he said that if the offense didn't get it together he would go as far as "getting involved in making the gameplan" and when I read that I thought "shouldn't you do that anyway???" So that got me to thinking and I thought maybe you guys might know this. Do most coaches not get involved in the gameplan? Is that normal in the NFL? Also is that a shot at Haley as well? Tomlin said "19 points is not enough to be competitive in this league." I wish I knew where I got the article but I don't know how to pull stuff from my phone. What do you guys think about that though?

If Tomlin doesn't involve himself in the general game plan then I am not certain what his actual job duties are.

I can see the strength and conditioning coach not being involved directly but the OC, DC and HC should all have inputs.

I'm sure High School coaches have some sort of game plan. Does Tomlin or does he not look at the competition and figure out their strengths and weaknesses and then attack those.

Do they even film study the opponent or just go out there performing what they happen to practice during the weak?

Hard to comment on without seeing the article in question, but no head coach in the league isn't a part of making the weekly game plan. Tomlin actually commented on his involvement in the game plan during the press conference Tuesday.

Q- How much input do you have in putting together an offensive gameplan each week, and would you step in if you saw something that needed to change in the offense?

A- I answered that last week, and I've answered it in the past- I'm highly involved and have no problem stepping in and intervening when I see fit. And do.

iPhone? You could 'share' the link (its the envelope with the arrow) and email it to yourself. Or you could Copy and Paste it to an email to yourself. From there C&P it here.

It's a samsung axiom and I'm so computer illiterate that you might as well have typed that in greek. Well actually I know some greek so it's more like you typed it in Zwahili. LOL. I think it was from my NFL.COM app and it has a feature that lets you pick your favorite team and it has a little tab with all the news relevant to us. I will try and find it again. The same article also said that Wheaton is about to get a lot more involved "at the expense of Jericho Cotchery".

Then maybe what Tomlin meant was he would take over making the offensive game plan from Haley.

That's what I was curious about whether or not he meant that.

If he doesn't, and the offense continues to struggle (lack of talent at RB regardless) it may not just be TH looking for new employment in the offseason.

if he's going to take over anything, it's personnel on the field and the run game. why is will Johnson only seeing 7 plays during a game? I just don't get it.

We must see more out of WJ than they do. I kept thinking at the game the other night when I would see him "oh cool there's will johnson. why will they not use him?" He was getting sent in motion and everything.

I don't think so. I believe staying healthy is what's been keeping him from seeing more snaps.

And also personnel on the field in the passing game. We need more of Moyer and Wheaton and less of Cotchery.

I want to say this about the run game. I really think the team made a mistake talking about their plans in the offseason. Now they faced two very good DC in Williams and Zimmer and they game planned specifically to attack the outside zone blocking that the Steelers are trying to use. The Titans put their outside LB on the line and blitzed five and it always appeared that they slanted toward what ever side the TE was on. The two remaining LB then waited to see if the RB try to cut back and flowed to him. The bengals used just the front four to clog up the middle and occupy the linemen and force the run to the outside where they had a LB waiting. Its tough to follow your plan when they all know what you are doing and have schemed to stop it.

I don't believe we've run a stretch play since early in the Titans game.

We've only run it twice and not since Pouncey has gone down. And it's going to be hard for teams to focus on one specific scheme since they plan on using both. For the time being, and for whatever reason, they have stopped using outside zone blocking. Gilbert and some of the other players were talking about it and think they will begin using it again soon.

of course it's hard to run a stretch play when the RB can't get out of the backfield.

heck Haley's stretch play was the naked bootleg with ben.
