In the next draft, we need to spend all our high draft picks on offence. We need to build an offence that can score 30+ points every game. Forget defence altogether. The game has changed, defence no longer wins games.

Look at NE, GB and Denver. Those teams give up a lot of points, but they simply outscore their opponents. Force turnovers and score a lot of points, that combination will win games most weeks.

The Thursday night game is another example of how the game has changed. Washington controlled the clock at an almost 3-1 margin. They ran the ball down the throat of Minnesota, but in the end it accomplished nothing. Defence and run game used to win games, as did controlling the clock. Not anymore.

In the next couple drafts we need a stud LT, a stud WR (such as a Julio Jones, Demaryius Thomas, etc.) and a move TE like Jimmy Graham or Gronk.

Then focus on forcing turnovers. We don't need to shut teams out, because that's impossible in todays game. We just need to force turnovers and we need to score a lot of points. Those two things together will win games.

I love defence and a strong running game as much as every other Steeler fan, but those days are done. Even two defensive teams in the SB last year ended up in a shootout.

I actually totally agree. With the way the game is now, all but the very best handful of defenses give up lots of points. That's just the way it is. You need an offense that can keep pace.

I may not be as anti-Tomlin as you are Shaner, but I agree on almost all of your posts. You are so dead on with this thread..I have been saying this for years. And yes, the team needs offensive weapons ASAP.

In order to get turnovers you need to build a D. Look at the top winning teams they have great D's. Like somebody said the points will get you to the playoffs, but it's the D that will win in the playoffs. When I think of Seattle, 49er's, KC, I think of their D's not their offense. You could add Denver. Saints, and Indy in there too, they have good D's. They shorten the field for their offense.

And the key is the new good D'S are all 4-3 based and have DL who can rush 1 on 1 they all have at least 2 solid CB'S who can play man or zone, and are great open field players...Also those Teams have great Talent in the 3rd. and 4th. CB spots...

We have the wrong scheme and exactly the wrong talent..For these reasons I agree we go all O and it should be all skill IMO...

Of course it helps if you have an offense that doesn't turn the ball over, we had 3 turnovers sunday, a defense cant compensate for that...........

Why not both? I'd rather have a team built like Seattle, they can't light it up like Denver but they don't have to because their D is so good but their offense can still score plenty.

Before the season started, I had Denver winning the SB, now I think they lose before they even get their, their defense isn't that good, going to cost them when they come up against a good playoff team.

You still need defensive players with talent to get stops, you aren't going to outscore everybody.

it would be nice to have both, but even with the good teams that I mentioned above they all built their defenses before their offense. only reason their offense is clicking now is because of the QB's they either traded for,, or who hit the jackpot in the draft. now those teams are beginning to balance out, but their D are still the main reason they're winning. we just need to be patient while somebody rebuilds this defense, people are still in denial thinking we only need a few tweaks here and there in order to become contenders again. we need more then a few tweaks, we need lebeau to retire before we can move forward, he's holding things up this D is stuck in pause.

Respectfully disagree..... Look at the sb champs....

baltimore was the last winner......ny giants over new england
Denver choked last year and hasn't been there in ages

New England hasn't won since spygate in 2004-2005 era.

I hate to say it but when did troy come back last year? we couldn't have won to many games since his return. does DLB change things just because he has troy as opposed to us playing it more straight up when will allen was in? has it hurt the defense more than helped it by doing this lately?

My whole problem with this idea, is, that we HAVE had an offense capable of putting up about 30 points/game, at least to my eyes, pretty much, ever since Ben has started.
And yet for some reason, we never reach that potential.
Some of it could be due to coaching philosophy(Cowher "taking the air out of the ball", when we have a lead), some of it MUST come down to player`s skill levels, although, it seems to me we have had above average players at most of the skill positions for pretty much the last decade.
Running back, is ONE position, where we never seemed to replace our "star"(Bus)...
Yet, it still feels like we have had enough talent in general, to produce 30 point games.
We`ve tried it with at least 2 different O-coordinaters(Probably 3, I forget who Arians replaced, but they weren`t putting up big numbers, either.)...
Ben had a pretty good O-line in front of him, up until we let Faneca go, and still, we were never an offensive powerhouse.
It just frustrates the hell out of me, because, pretty much every year, until the last 2, I`m thinking,
OK, THIS is the year we finally start lighting the scoreboard up... and we proceed to win nail-biter games, that our defense keeps us in position to win, or we lose, because the defense gives up a game winning drive to a team that we let hang around, within one score, until the 4th qtr.
Why can`t we EVER just be up by 2 scores(or more), going into the final 5 minutes or so?!?
Not so much this year, or last, we clearly havent been playing well enough to expect that, but before that?
It STILL didn`t happen!(Or rarely happend)...
I guess it`s just me, but I have felt this team has had plenty of talent on offense, to beat our opponents by 2 or 3 scores every week. Esp, over the seasons before this, when our D pretty much ALWAYS held opponents to 21 points or less.
So, what do we have to "change", to finally start averaging 30 points/game?
I feel we should have been doing it for about the last 10 years, and we haven`t.
Lucky for us, we had a defense that at least kept us in games till the end, and USUALLY stopped the other team from scoring on their final drive, until the last 2 seasons.
Gotta have good D, but it would be nice to move the ball, like a well oiled machine, like other teams do.
    GO STEELERS!
